Texas Rangers

• The Texas Rangers have been struggling and currently sit in third place in the AL West Division. • Acquired two starting pitchers and some help in the bullpen at trade deadline. • Recently closed out their series with the A's with two straight wins, but had dropped six of eight games prior to that. • Max Scherzer, acquired at trade deadline, will start game two against the Jays. Scherzer is 12-6 in 26 starts this season with an ERA of 2.91. • Rangers have a power ranking of 29, are ranked 3rd in offense (average of 5.45 per game) and 17th in defense (allowing an average of 4.48 points to be scored against them per game). • Injuries: 3B Josh Jung and RF Adolis Garcia are out. Toronto Blue Jays Analysis

• Toronto Blue Jays enter series with Rangers having won 8 of 10 games, and 80 victories overall • In game one of series, Toronto was routed by Rangers 10-4 • Jays turn to lefty Hyun Jin Ryu for game two against Rangers; Ryu has made seven starts with 3-2 record, ERA of 2.65, and K/9 rate of 7.4 • Toronto has Team Power Ranking of 9, #15 for offense, #2 for defense; Texas went 0-3 in last 3 matchups vs. Toronto Well, things got pretty...wild pic.twitter.com/Wu5MssCmnH

Ryu, Blue Jays' Bullpen Give Toronto Advantage over Rangers in Game Two Despite Scherzer's Star Power

With Max Scherzer on the mound, I remain inclined to the Blue Jays for game two. Five of his last starts have an ERA over four and Texas has lost three of his last four starts. The Rangers’ lack of game-closing performance will come into play against the Blue Jays, who boast a capable backend prepardness with Justin Hicks and Julian Romano. Jays’ starter Ryu is likely to end their innings at five as usual over his last seven starts. Toronto's bullpen gives the Jays an edge here, evidenced by four of Ryu's last five starts resulting in wins, despite limited innings. Scherzer's multi-time Cy Young Award lifestyle won’t be enough to rally against the Jays' late-inning bullpen. My recommendation: Take the Blue Jays with the money line.
