San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers Predictions Today: Robbie Ray vs Jacob Misiorowski

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 8:30 PM ET

Venue: American Family Field — Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Article updated Oct 3, 8:07 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Milwaukee Brewers will beat the San Diego Padres, 4-2, in the October 3 NLDS opener. Jacob Misiorowski's exceptional season and recent scoreless starts give Milwaukee the strongest matchup advantage, although Robbie Ray faces the weaker side of the Brewers' offensive splits. Neither Milwaukee -1.5 (+110) nor the total of 7 offers a clear enough edge for an actionable wager.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers prediction and best bet

Milwaukee is the pick because its starting-pitcher advantage rests on both season performance and recent results. Misiorowski finished with a 1.80 ERA, 252 strikeouts and a 0.80 WHIP. Ray's 3.59 ERA gives San Diego a credible response, but his September outings were considerably less consistent. Milwaukee's 55-26 home record strengthens the forecast against a Padres team that went 40-41 on the road.

The best betting decision is Pass. A Brewers victory and a Brewers win by multiple runs are different propositions. Milwaukee's weaker offensive ranking against left-handers matters against Ray, and the projected 4-2 result leaves limited room for error on either the run line or Under.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game: San Diego Padres at Milwaukee Brewers, 2026 MLB NLDS Game 1.

Time and venue: October 3, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. EDT at American Family Field.

Probable starters: Padres left-hander Robbie Ray against Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski.

Records: Covers lists San Diego at 93-71 and Milwaukee at 103-59, with respective road and home records of 40-41 and 55-26.

SportsJaw odds: Padres moneyline +170; Brewers moneyline -194. Run line: San Diego +1.5 (-124), Milwaukee -1.5 (+110). Total: Over 7 (-112), Under 7 (-108).

San Diego Padres outlook

San Diego averaged 4.48 runs scored and 4.16 allowed per game in the Covers team table. Those figures suggest a competitive team, although its 40-41 road record offers less encouragement for this assignment. The Padres must generate offense against a pitcher who held them to four hits over seven scoreless innings in May while striking out 10.

Ray enters with a 13-8 record, 3.59 ERA and 140 strikeouts. On September 23 against the Dodgers, he allowed seven hits but only one run, earned, over 3 1/3 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts. His September 16 start against Colorado lasted six innings: three hits, three earned runs, one homer, two walks and six strikeouts.

The preceding outings were tougher. Ray allowed five earned runs in five innings against San Francisco on September 11, then five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings against the Yankees on September 5. He walked four in each game. His August 30 outing against Tampa Bay was stronger, with one earned run over six innings.

MLB.com reported that San Diego could turn to its bullpen early if Ray struggled. His effectiveness will shape that decision; an early exit alone would not guarantee additional Milwaukee scoring.

Milwaukee Brewers outlook

Milwaukee's team profile supports the home favorite. The Brewers averaged 5.14 runs scored and 3.81 allowed per game, alongside their 55-26 home record. Their offense ranked first in MLB against right-handed pitching but 13th against left-handers, according to MLB.com. Ray therefore presents the less favorable matchup for Milwaukee's bats. That ranking comes without a numerical split or sample size, so it warrants restraint when projecting runs.

Misiorowski supplies the stronger argument. His 16-5 season included MLB-leading marks in ERA at 1.80, strikeouts at 252, WHIP at 0.80 and opponents' batting average at .157. Those measures describe an unusually difficult assignment for San Diego, particularly when viewed alongside his recent starts.

Against St. Louis on September 27, he threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, yielding two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. He allowed one hit, no walks and no runs over three innings against Baltimore on September 20, striking out four. On September 15 against Pittsburgh, he worked five scoreless innings with five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.

Those outings reinforce his season performance, but none lasted six innings. Milwaukee has a strong starting advantage without a firm basis for assuming Misiorowski will carry the entire run-prevention burden.

Key matchup factors

The key tension is between Milwaukee's superior starter and its less imposing offense against Ray's handedness. Misiorowski makes a Brewers win the stronger forecast; the left-handed matchup makes a comfortable margin less certain. San Diego's potential early bullpen move also means Ray's recent struggles should not simply be extended across nine innings.

SportsJaw members favored Milwaukee -194 at 71%, while the blended moneyline consensus favored Milwaukee at 78% in the October 3 update at 11:55 a.m. UTC. Those are separate measures of selection support, not estimates of Milwaukee's win probability. The popularity of the Brewers adds context, but neither following that preference nor opposing it automatically improves the price.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers spread prediction

Run line: Pass on Milwaukee -1.5 (+110) and San Diego +1.5 (-124). The projected two-run Brewers victory favors Milwaukee's side of the line, but a single score estimate cannot measure how often that margin will occur.

Misiorowski and Milwaukee's home results make laying the runs plausible. Ray's season ERA and the Brewers' weaker ranking against left-handers create a credible one-run scenario. Conversely, backing San Diego requires paying -124 despite the starting-pitcher disadvantage. Neither price is compelling enough to turn the game forecast into a run-line wager.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers total prediction

Total: Pass on Over 7 (-112) and Under 7 (-108). The 4-2 projection points toward the Under, with Misiorowski's season and recent starts supplying the main scoring restraint. Seven runs would produce a push.

Ray's recent volatility is the strongest objection. He allowed five earned runs in two of his five listed starts, and Milwaukee averaged 5.14 runs per game overall. The blended total consensus leaned Under at 52%, but that narrow preference is not a scoring model. The opposing pitching signals make Under 7 (-108) an insufficiently secure wager.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers projected score

Game forecast: Milwaukee Brewers 4, San Diego Padres 2. Confidence is medium. Misiorowski's exceptional season, three recent scoreless starts and successful May appearance against San Diego support a clear choice of winner, reinforced by Milwaukee's home performance.

The strongest counterargument is that Ray's full-season performance was considerably better than his recent uneven stretch, and Milwaukee's offense ranked only 13th against left-handers. A competitive Ray outing could shrink the winning margin or put San Diego in position to win. Milwaukee remains the forecast, but neither the run line nor the total offers enough demonstrated value at the supplied prices. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
