Cardinals at Chargers: Week 1 Betting Preview and Pass

The matchup

The Arizona Cardinals visit the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, September 13, for their 2026 NFL season opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET, or 1:25 p.m. PT.

Los Angeles finished 11-6 in 2025, while Arizona went 3-14. The moneylines are Chargers -500 and Cardinals +387. The spreads are Los Angeles -9.25 (-110) and Arizona +9.25 (-110). Over and under 47 are each priced at -110.

Changes up front

Mike McDaniel oversees a new Chargers offense with an emphasis on getting throws away faster. The CBS Sports/AP preview connects that emphasis to Justin Herbert taking six sacks in the playoff loss to New England.

The Chargers report that tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are healthy again. Second-round rookie Jake Slaughter is set to start at center after Tyler Biadasz sustained an ACL injury in mid-August. Chris O'Leary also makes his regular-season debut as defensive coordinator.

Arizona's production and availability

Arizona hired Mike LaFleur after last season. The Cardinals averaged an NFL-leading 402 yards per game during the preseason, according to the CBS Sports/AP preview. That figure describes preseason production and does not establish how their offense will perform Sunday. Trey McBride caught 126 passes last season and is identified by the Chargers as Arizona's main passing-game threat.

Arizona ruled out Isaiah Adams, Garrett Williams and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. Rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is questionable following a preseason high-ankle sprain and is described as a game-time decision. Josh Sweat practiced fully Friday. For Los Angeles, Deane Leonard is out and Tuli Tuipulotu is questionable with a hip injury.

Betting decision

Pass. Last season's records, preseason production and the reported personnel changes do not establish an edge on the moneyline, spread or total. With that evidence insufficient to support a wager, there is no winner selection or projected score.
