Commanders at Eagles: Week 1 Injuries and Prior-Year Results Point to a Pass

The opener and the defensive backdrop

The Washington Commanders visit the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on September 13 for their 2026 NFL season opener, scheduled for 4:25 p.m. Washington’s official preview confirms the matchup, venue and date.

The teams’ 2025 defensive results provide context. Philadelphia finished sixth in scoring defense, allowing 19.3 points per game, and ninth in passing defense at 195.1 yards allowed. Washington finished 32nd in total defense, surrendering 384 yards per game. Those figures describe last season, rather than establish how either defense will perform Sunday.

Availability includes meaningful absences

Washington will be without left tackle Laremy Tunsil because of a torn triceps, with Brandon Coleman projected to start. Cornerback Trey Amos will also miss the opener with an ankle injury; the Eagles’ injury report identifies Rasul Douglas as his replacement opposite Mike Sainristil.

Washington has cleared Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, Daron Payne and Jacory Croskey-Merritt to play. Croskey-Merritt led the team with 805 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in 2025, when Washington ranked fourth in rushing offense at 134.7 yards per game.

Philadelphia has ruled out outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard with a pectoral injury. Rookie tight end Eli Stowers is questionable with a hamstring injury. Greenard’s absence concerns Philadelphia’s defense and does not directly affect Washington’s pass rush against Jalen Hurts.

The prices and the decision

Philadelphia is -245 on the moneyline and -5.5 (-110) against the spread. Washington is +205 and +5.5 (-110). Over and under are each listed at 44.25 (-110). Philadelphia must win by at least six points to cover its spread.

The available information supports a matchup preview, but does not establish that either side or total offers value at these prices. The decision is Pass, with no selected winner or projected score and low confidence in a directional betting assessment.
