Kansas St. Wildcats
Despite beating Rhode Island, Nevada, and LSU, Kansas State won the Cayman Islands Classic unscathed. With a road game at Butler and a home game against Wichita State this week, the Wildcats' undefeated record will be challenged again this week. In the Wildcat Classic, K-State will face former conference rival Nebraska after two tune-up games. At the start of the new year, Kansas State will face #2 Texas and #6 Baylor.
The Wildcats are led by experienced upperclassmen, averaging 76.5 points per game on 45.6 percent shooting from the field. They have the 14th-highest free-throw percentage (79.4%) and average 17.7 assists per game, 19th-most in the country. K-State's star seniors Keyontae Johnson (17.7 points and 6.0 rebounds) and Markquis Nowell (15.3 points, 7.8 assists, and 2.0 scoring points) lead the team. He shoots 55.4% from the floor and 50 percent from the corner. Two other players to watch against Butler are junior forward Nae'Qwan Tomlin (9.7 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game) and senior guard Desi Sills (9.0 points on 48.8% shooting).
According to KenPom, the Wildcats' defense ranks 39th nationally in defensive efficiency adjusted for strength of schedule. With K-State's distribution of the rock to its shooters, it will take more than just that to beat them. Their opponents score 61.5 points per game and shoot 41.4 percent, including 29.7 percent from long range.
With a power ranking of 32, Kansas St. is ranked #116 in offense (scoring an average of 76.50 per game), #48 in defense (allowing an average of 61.50 points to be scored against them per game) and are 6-0 (5-1 ATS) this season.
As Butler took it on the chin in the Bahamas, he lost 71-45 to Tennessee. The Bulldogs only trailed by five at halftime but surrendered 43 points in the second half. They only shot 31.9 percent from the field and only 21.7 percent from three. A 17-1 run at the start of the second half put the Bulldogs away, as the Volunteers shot 53 percent after the break. Despite the Vols' defensive struggles, they still managed to beat them.In most cases, it's just their denial," Butler guard Eric Hunter Jr. said. "They'll deny and push you out to about 30 feet or halfcourt at times. That got us out of it."
Despite never having a double-digit lead, the Bulldogs led for over 34 minutes against BYU. With Jaden Taylor scoring 20 points and Hunter Jr. adding 19 as a teammate, Butler shot 52.8 percent and hit seven of its 15 three-point attempts. As the Wolfpack cruised to a 15-point win over the Bulldogs in the tournament's fifth-place contest, there wasn't enough momentum to keep the party. At halftime, Butler trailed 35-22 once again due to a lack of scoring.
Despite scoring 73.7 points per game and shooting 48.9 percent from the field, Butler is ranked just 119th in offensive efficiency, adjusted for schedule, by KenPom. The defense is suspect, ranking 84th.
Butler Bulldogs has a power ranking of 56 and are #164 for offense (scoring an average of 73.71 per game), #84 for defense (giving up an average of 61.50 points per game) and 4-3 (4-3 ATS) overall. Kansas St. went 1-0 (1-0 ATS) in their last 3 matchups against Butler.

Staff Pick for Kansas State vs Butler
Kansas State is my pick with this line close to a pick em'. Butler is favored by just 1.5 points at home, so picking this spread is tough. As for the Bulldogs, they are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games following a straight-up loss, while the Wildcats have gone 5-0 ATS in their last five road games following three or more consecutive home games. Butler is more battle-tested than K-State after recent games against Tennessee, BYU, and NC State. On Wednesday, the Wildcats should be the better team.
In terms of defense, Kansas State ranks 39th nationally, while limiting opponents to shoot less than 30 percent from three-point range. The Wildcats also boast an experienced scoring punch in Johnson and Nowell and are top 25 in team assists. My prediction is Kansas State will remain undefeated after tonight's game against Butler who I think is susceptible.
Betting Prediction: Kansas State Wildcats 79 to Butler Bulldogs 74.

TAKE KANSAS STATE+2
Kansas State has played increasingly better teams as the season has gone on and they keep winning. They shoot the ball well and shoot the 3 at a 37.7% clip, while Butler sits around 35.5%. Butler has 3 losses as well, with two forgivable losses and one bad drop against NC State. The Bulldogs aren’t ready to compete with the Wildcats in my opinion and their record shows that Kansas State is in the same tier as teams Butler already lost to.
Prediction: Kansas State to win outright.
