The Brooklyn Nets, a professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, compete in the NBA as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. Their home games take place at Barclays Center. Alongside the New York Knicks, they represent one of the two NBA teams located in New York City. Originally established as a charter franchise of the ABA in 1967, the Nets initially played as the New Jersey Americans before moving to Long Island, New York in 1968 and adopting the name New York Nets. During their time in the ABA, they achieved two championship victories. In 1976, following the merger of the ABA and the NBA, the Nets, alongside three other ABA teams, joined the NBA and have contiuned as active members since.
