PensBurgh: Recap: Pittsburgh is the lion in the jungle as they smack down the Islanders

    NHL

Dominik Simon is out from getting hurt last game, welcome back to the lineup Garrett Wilson. Everything else is the same.

    1st period

The Penguins get on the board first, and Kris Letang doing the honors. Derick Brassard feeds Letang with a pass and #58 one-t's it over the glove side on Thomas Greiss to open things up 8:34 in.

Never a great sign when a 4th liner takes a slashing penalty in the offensive zone. Take a bow, Derek Grant. Luckily the Islanders can't do much with the game's first power play.

  • CBS: Kessel, Letang Each Score Twice As Penguins Top Islanders

    NHL

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Kris Letang and Phil Kessel each scored twice, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New York Islanders 6-2 on Thursday night.

Kessel also had two assists, Sidney Crosby scored his 15th goal and had two assists, and Riley Sheahan scored his fourth goal. The Penguins have won two straight and five of eight following a slump in which they won once in 10 games.

Jake Guentzel had three assists and established a career-best six-game point streak for Pittsburgh.

Casey DeSmith made 19 saves to win for the fifth time in six starts.

  • Lighthouse Hockey: New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins [Game 27]

    NHL

The New York Islanders are back on the road as they renew their rivalry with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders are looking to right the ship after losing their last game and three of their last four. They come into this one two points ahead of Pittsburgh with the same number of games played.

The Islanders have struggled on the road since their since their three game road winning streak as they've gone 1-3-1 since then. The last game of that road winning streak was against the Penguins however and they won that one pretty handily by a score of six to three.

    PensBurgh: Gamethread: Islanders @ Penguins

    NHL

The Penguins are at it once again, tonight against the Islanders. Pittsburgh has to be feeling good after a 3rd period outburst to beat a really good Colorado team on Tuesday night.

Casey DeSmith in the net tonight after a season-high 42 saves against Colorado. DeSmith appeared once against the Isles this season, back on October 30th in relief after Matt Murray got shelled. DeSmith gave 2 goals up in 24 minutes on 16 shots, so hopefully he and the team are a little more up for the task tonight.
