• The Cannon: QuickCap #28: Columbus Blue Jackets at Philadelphia Flyers

The Columbus Blue Jackets traveled east to take on the Philadelphia Flyers to try to break a two game skid. Here's what went down.

    First Period

Philadelphia was first one the board as the Blue Jackets were caught up in the offensive zone and Zach Werenski was forced to defend a 3 on 1 rush. Shortly after Claude Giroux's opener, Seth Jones equalized the game and a Brandon Dubinsky tip gave the Jackets the lead. A Philadelphia goal was overturned for offsides and Sergei Bobrovsky withstood a flurry to give the Jackets a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.

Fansided: Three Takeaways from Philadelphia Flyers overtime loss vs Columbus

After achieving victory in their last game, the Philadelphia Flyers took on the Columbus Blue Jackets hoping to avenge the October 18th loss earlier this season.

Anthony Stolarz earned his third straight start, and opposed former Flyers net-minder Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky hasn't looked the best to start the year with a 10-9 record, 3.04 Goals-Against Average, and a .901 save percentage coming in. It would be key for Philadelphia to get pucks on net early and often given Bobrovsky's early struggles.

Claude Giroux gave the Flyers an early lead, scoring the game's first goal six minutes in for his tenth goal of the season.

  • Fansided: Columbus Blue Jackets Beat Philadelphia Flyers in Philly

The Columbus Blue Jackets snuck out with a close one against the Philadelphia Flyers with a final score of 4-3 in overtime.

It was a back and forth first period, with the Philadelphia Flyers taking an early lead thanks to a Claude Giroux snipe on an odd-man rush roughly six minutes into the first period. Seth Jones would tie it up on a weak goal allowed by Anthony Stolarz that shouldn't have gone in, however the Blue Jackets wouldn't complain.

Brandon Dubinsky handed the Blue Jackets the lead late in the first on a redirection of a Scott Harrington shot from the point.

Fansided: Who and what to watch for the Flyers against the Columbus Blue Jackets

Stolarz was great against Pittsburgh and with no other clear and reliable goaltender right now, he'll get his chance once again to show what he can do. Now that Fletcher is the GM, he'll be evaluating the roster over the next few weeks and with the questions looming around the goalie situation, you can bet that he'll be watching Stolarz closely tonight. He stopped 30 shots in the 4-2 victory over the Penguins, with a couple of huge saves to keep the Flyers ahead of their bitter rival. The defense struggled at times, but he was able to save them.

    Columbus Blue Jackets
(60% consensus). Scoring goals hasn't been too difficult a task of late for Cam Atkinson, who has pumped in 13 to go along with six assists during his career-best 11-game point streak. Although Atkinson set a franchise record with his sixth career hat trick in his last outing, the Blue Jackets were left shaking their head after being gouged for nine goals heading into Thursday's road tilt versus the Philadelphia Flyers...

Hello, all! After a hiatus following Saturday night's defeat of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flyers take to the ice tonight vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second time this season. This is also the first Flyers game with their new general manager, Chuck Fletcher, at the helm. Looking to break their first two-game losing streak in a month, the Columbus Blue Jackets face the Philadelphia Flyers for the second time this season, as the season series shifts to the Wells Fargo Center. The season has gone in opposite directions for the clubs since the teams' first meeting. While the Jackets are within striking distance of first place in the Metro, the Flyers occupy seventh place.

  • Fansided: Columbus Blue Jackets Visit Philadelphia Gritties... Flyers

The Columbus Blue Jackets are traveling to Philadelphia to take on Stinger's arch rival Gritty and the Flyers tonight. The Flyers are off to a rough start which resulted in the firing of former general manager Ron Hextall, who has since been replaced by former Minnesota Wild GM Chuck Fletcher.

Despite the Flyers slow start, they have a strong team on paper which shouldn't be taken lightly. Led by captain Claude Giroux who currently has 30 points in the first 25 games of the season. The Columbus Blue Jackets counter with Cam Atkinson who has 30 in 26 games.
