FlamesNation: Flames 1, Kings 0 post-game embers: All Hamonic, all Rittich

    NHL

I think, after performances like that, it's worth it to overhype some players, at least a little. Travis Hamonic had his best game as a Flame, and without David Rittich there wouldn't have been a win. Full credit where credit is due, because those two were amazing - and they're responsible for another two points.

    Feel of the game

The start was a little bumpy for both teams, but it was as though Hamonic was feeling it right from the beginning. In a night that featured plenty of pretty Flames passing with no results (I'm looking primarily at you, top line), not even two and a half minutes in, Hamonic was frantically banging his stick on the ice.

FlamesNation: Quip and Quotes: Flames beat Kings 1-0

    NHL

The Calgary Flames beat the Los Angeles Kings by a 1-0 score on Saturday night. Here are selected reactions from players and coaches following the game.

Two big kills at a key time

You could be forgiven if you saw the Flames nursing a 1-0 lead in the third period and got a bit nervous. Recent games against the Kings have been tight-checking and low-scoring, but the Flames have also become accustomed to three-point games against their divisional foes.

A trip to overtime was prevented by David Rittich's strong play and a couple very tidy penalty kills late in regulation.

Matchsticks and Gasoline: Calgary Flames at Los Angeles Kings [Game 17]

    NHL

The Calgary Flames California trip continues tonight as they take on the Los Angeles Kings. The Flames started this trip off on the wrong foot losing to an Anaheim team that is 2-6-2 in their last ten games. The Ducks had been struggling mightily and the Flames missed out on a chance to move up in a Pacific division that isn't very good right now.

Much of that loss could be pinned on Mike Smith who once again put in a sub-par performance. Smith allowed three goals on 24 shots, 21 of which came at even strength.

    Play a Full 60 Minutes

If we did "keys to the game," this would be on the list for every single game until the Kings started doing it consistently. They came out on fire against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, but weren't able to sustain any sort of pressure over 60 minutes. The game slowly slipped away from the Kings, and while some of that was due to pressure from the Wild, some of it was, once again, self-inflicted wounds.

    Calgary Flames 9-6-1 (19 points) - LA Kings 5-9-1 (11 points)

The Flames will look to get back on the winning track tonight as the make their second stop in California to take on the struggling LA Kings. Calgary had a 4 game winning streak snapped on Wednesday at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. It was another rough start for Mike Smith and although the Flames generated some 3rd period magic, the Ducks were just a little bit better when it counted.
