Canes Country: Hurricanes 5, Wild 1: The Turbo Show

RALEIGH -- The Carolina Hurricanes earned a desperately needed win as they downed the Minnesota Wild in front of an energetic PNC Arena led by a dominant three point night from Teuvo Teravainen.

Despite a packed building with a lot of buzz, the game started out on a bit of a flat note. Things finally picked up just over the halfway mark in the first when Anthony Bitetto earned an interference infraction after jumping in the way of a forechecking Justin Williams, who went tumbling into the boards.

Hockey Wilderness: Wild take on familiar face as they visit Carolina

With the NCHC Frozen Faceoff taking place at Xcel Energy Center, the Wild hit the road for a brief two game road trip, but those games are on back-to-back nights. After their 2-1 huge victory over the first place Metro leading Washington Friday night, the Wild have tons of momentum following their impressive win in Washington. However, things will not get any easier for the Wild as they take on Carolina. This game means a lot already as Minnesota needs points to secure a playoff spot, but the fact that former Wild player Nino Niederreiter plays for the Hurricanes means extra motivation.

Fansided: Carolina Hurricanes: Three Keys to Victory Against the Minnesota Wild

The Carolina Hurricanes had what looked like a good opportunity against the Tampa Bay Lightning after two periods. The Lightning had different ideas scoring four goals in the third period to win the game. The Hurricanes need two points against the Wild as it will help them in their push for the playoffs. They currently sit in the first wild card position with 87 points, which is only three points ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are on the outside looking in.

The Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, and New York Islanders are all on the schedule today, so this game against the Wild becomes much more important.
