Washington Times: Capitals rock rookie goalie Hart for road win over Flyers

PHILADELPHIA -- If Gritty the mascot gave the Philadelphia Flyers a new identity off the ice this season, Carter Hart is becoming their new identity on it.

The franchise has long sought stability between the pipes, and Hart -- who won eight straight starts during the winter to boost Philadelphia into the playoff race -- is one promising goalie of the future.

But Hart is still a 20-year-old rookie, susceptible to poor outings or surprises from unlikely adversaries. On Thursday night, Brett Connolly was the Washington Capital who had Hart's number.

Fansided: Philadelphia Flyers Lose to Capitals in Carter Hart's Return

It was only one week and a day since the Philadelphia Flyers last played the defending Stanley Cup champion, Washington Capitals, where they fell 5-3. Though the last time these two teams met the Flyers didn't have goalie Carter Hart. Hart returned to the Flyers tonight, since his last appearance on Feb. 21st, although the Flyers have held strong since his injury. The Flyers fell down 5-0, against the Capitals last week, eventually clawing back 3 straight goals to lose 5-3. Heading into tonight a key for the Flyers to win was to allow the Capitals to chase them, yet that wasn't the case tonight.

Fansided: Carter Hart to Return From Injury for Philadelphia Flyers vs Capitals

After defeating the Ottawa Senators in their last contest, the Philadelphia Flyers will look for their third straight win as they take on the Metropolitan Division leading Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Capitals enter this game coming off a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but won seven straight contests beforehand. We already know about all of the talent Washington possesses on the offensive side of the puck and the Flyers can't let themselves fall into another deep hole like they did in their March 6th matchup.

For some reason Jakub Voracek felt the need to appeal his recent two-game suspension, but alas, the NHL would not budge and the Flyers will be without his services tonight. [ BSH ]
They will, however, have Carter Hart back after the rookie netminder missed the last three weeks with an ankle injury.
