CBS Miami: Panthers Get Back In Win Column With 3-2 Shootout Victory Over Flames
SUNRISE (CBSMiami/AP) -- The Florida Panthers earned a much-needed win on the team's immensely important 7-game homestand.
It just took three games to get it.
Vincent Trocheck scored in the third round of the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers over the Calgary Flames 3-2 on Thursday night.
Elias Lindholm scored for Calgary late in the third period to extend the game, but Matthew Tkachuk missed in the third round of the shootout with a chance to do the same.
Mike Hoffman had a goal and an assist, and Evgenii Dadonov scored for Florida. Mark Jankowski also had a goal for the Flames, who lost their fourth straight.
FlamesNation: Post-Game: Flames can't tame the Panthers
The Calgary Flames were alright in Thursday night's game with the Florida Panthers. Playing against a team that's a fair distance from the playoffs, the Flames could never quite find their second gear or bury their chances. They dropped a close one 3-2 to the Panthers in a shootout. The Rundown
Neither team scored in a sleepy first period. Shots were 10-10 and the Panthers led 9-4 in chances, but neither side looked particularly dangerous.
The second period was very similarly-paced to the first - slow - until the Panthers scored with five minutes remaining in the period.

When the Calgary Flames visit the Florida Panthers on Thursday, James Neal is looking to smile again -- even though he has several teeth missing.
Neal, a 31-year-old left winger with 268 career goals, took a shot to his mouth on Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks. Neal took a high stick from Canucks defenseman Alex Biega, and replays showed teeth flying out of the mouth of the Flames forward.
It was the sixth time in his career that Neal has lost teeth as a result of a hockey hit, a swinging stick or a flying puck.

Game number three of a four game road trip sees the Flames in Sunrise Florida to do battle with the Florida Panthers Thursday night. The Flames have dropped four out of their last five games including a current three game skid. Calgary has lost it's grip on the top spot in the West and Pacific and the teams below them are coming hard and fast. The Flames could use a win Thursday night to get back on track and loses by San Jose and Winnipeg would put the Flames right back on top of the division and conference.
