Behind the Steel Curtain: Steelers vs. Raiders, Week 14: 1st quarter in-game update
The Pittsburgh Steelers entered Week 14 reeling. After back-to-back losses to the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, their playoff, and division, standings were hanging in the balance. On paper, it seemed as if the 2-10 Oakland Raiders would be the perfect medicine for what ails the Steelers.
However, the game isn't played on paper.
After winning the coin toss, the Steelers elected to defer their possession to the start of the second half, giving Jon Gruden's group first possession to start the game. It didn't take long for Derek Carr to move the team down the field, and this was due to tight end Jared Cook.
Steelers Depot: 2018 Week 14 Steelers Vs Raiders Live Update And Discussion Thread - First Half
The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for their first win in their past three games, having lost to the Broncos and Chargers in consecutive weeks. They now get their third crack in a row against an AFC West team, having already gone 0-3 against teams in the division.
Marcus Gilbert remains out for the team, but joining him is starting running back James Conner. Another notable name on the inactive list is rookie outside linebacker Olasunkanmi Adeniyi. Marcus Allen also goes back to being a healthy scratch with Morgan Burnett and Cameron Sutton back. The other inactives are Mason Rudolph, Zach Banner, and L.
Silver And Black Pride: 2018 NFL Week 14 Raiders vs. Steelers open thread
It's game time, boys! The hated Steelers have come to town and it's sure to be a fight in Oakland. The Steelers will be without RB James Conner today, but do have some of the NFL's best receivers in Antonio Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster. That will be a challenge for the Raiders secondary.
The Raiders will also have to keep Derek Carr upright without guard Kelechi Osemele against a pass rush that's tops in the league for sacks this year. Expect a healthy dose of the run game today!
Consensus betting prediction from the Covers.com community:
Oakland Raiders (52% consensus). The Pittsburgh Steelers' biggest fear has become reality, and they hope to overcome the obstacle and avoid a third straight loss when they visit the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. James Conner, who has filled in admirably as Pittsburgh's top running back this season, will miss the contest due to a sprained ankle - forcing the team to use a two-man approach... http://bit.ly/2B6VUAC
Fansided: Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders: TV information, live stream, radio info
The Oakland Raiders enter their Week 14 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers as big home underdogs once again, as the Steelers appear poised to win another AFC North title. For the Raiders, they are finishing up a season that has seen them win only two games, though they have been playing better football as of late.
Quarterback Derek Carr has not thrown an interception this season, and will be going up against a Steelers secondary that has not picked one in weeks. Last weekend, Carr stood tall under intense pressure against the Kansas City Chiefs, putting together his best game of the season in a 40-33 loss to their division rival.
Steelers Depot: 2018 Week 14 Steelers Vs Raiders - What To Watch For
For whatever reason it might be, the Oakland Raiders have been a problem for the Pittsburgh Steelers when they have gotten the opportunity to be the host team. The Steelers have lost three straight games in Oakland with Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback, but they have a chance to snap that streak today.
It should be a simple enough task, on paper. The Raiders are among the worst teams in the league, and the Steelers are still among the best, despite their two-game losing skid. But the other Raiders teams they lost to were bad as well.

Steelers Depot: Steelers Vs. Raiders: 5 Keys To Victory In Week 14
The Pittsburgh Steelers will play their thirteenth game of the 2018 regular season Sunday afternoon against the Oakland Raiders in what figures to be a game the visitors should win after losing their last two contests. Below are five key things that I believe the Steelers will need to do in the game to come away with their fifth road win of the 2018 season Sunday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland.
Get a good case of the runs going early - The Raiders run defense hasn't been great at all so day this season as not only has that unit allowed a league worst 6.
Steelers Depot: Steelers Versus Raiders: Week 14 Projected Inactive List
The Pittsburgh Steelers will play the Oakland Raiders Sunday afternoon on the road and if you're like me, you're counting down the hours until the game begins. As usual, I will attempt to project the seven inactives for every Steelers game of the 2018 season and below is my best guess as to which seven players won't be given helmets Sunday afternoon at the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum in Oakland.
Game inactives are officially announced 90 minutes before kickoff, so make sure you check back at that time to see the names of the players for both teams who will be sitting the game out.
CSN Bay Area: NFL Picks: Raiders vs. Steelers Week 14 score predictions
An AFL rivalry will be renewed Sunday when the Raiders host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 28 regular-season and playoff matchups since the merger, the Raiders lead the all-time series 15-13. The Silver and Black last met up with the Steel Curtain on Nov. 8, 2015 in a 38-35 shootout. Pittsburgh kicked a last-minute field goal, overcoming Derek Carr's four touchdowns.
The Steelers won't have running back James Conner, but they still boast one of the NFL's most prolific offenses. Can the shorthanded Raiders keep pace?
Here's what writers around the country are saying about Sunday's Week 14 matchup between the Raiders and Steelers.
Steelers Depot: Steelers Spin: Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The Pittsburgh Steelers ship is sinking into a pool of mediocrity, an unfathomable abyss of "mehs".
What just mere weeks ago was shaping up to be a turnaround season of a team on the rise, has become a knotted mess of enigmas. This, as the Steelers dropped yet another critical game with serious playoffs implications to the Los Angeles Chargers by the score of 30-33.
It was a game marred by inexcusably poor officiating, yet even this couldn't overshadow the completely incompetent lack of in-game adjustments by the Steelers coaching staff.

Get live updates, news and analysis Sunday at 1:25 p.m. when the Raiders take on the slumping Pittsburgh Steelers at the Coliseum.
While the Steelers (7-4-1) come to Oakland focused on a playoff berth, the Raiders are looking for at least some respectability, if not an upset win against their longtime rivals. Oakland is tied with the 49ers for the worst record in the NFL as either team could be picking first in the 2019 draft.
The Raiders have lost seven of their last eight games, including a 40-33 shootout loss to the Chiefs in Oakland last Sunday.

Ah, yes, the trap game. A road game against the worst team in the NFL with a home game against your biggest rival on the horizon the following week. It's a potentially dangerous situation for Pittsburgh bettors as the Steelers open as double-digit favorites against the Raiders. Original matchup: http://bit.ly/2EbsnaS
Fansided: Oakland Raiders Week 14 Scouting the Enemy: Pittsburgh Steelers
When you think of the best rivalries throughout NFL history, the Oakland Raiders versus the Pittsburgh Steelers has to be mentioned. Their back and forths during the '70s helped define one of the best periods the league has ever had.
Things may not be what they once were between these two, but the nostalgia will never die. However, the rivalry was always defined by playoff matchups and this week's game is anything but. The Raiders are one of the worst team in the league, and the Steelers are trying to secure a playoff spot.
So you would think the stakes aren't that high, but Oakland has a great chance to play spoiler on Sunday.
CSN Bay Area: Raiders vs. Steelers live stream: How to watch NFL Week 14 game online
The Raiders have been playing better of late. It's only been worth one win in three tries, but there are signs that players have been developed well under Jon Gruden and Paul Guenther.
It may not be enough to beat a talented Pittsburgh Steelers team reeling over two straight losses, but it could create tension in Sunday's game at Oakland Coliseum. The Raiders were poised to upset the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday thanks to solid coverage and an offense producing steadily behind Derek Carr.
Can they put similar pressure on the Steelers? They'll need help from these four guys to beat a powerful team with a productive offense:RB Jalen Richard
Jon Gruden once called Jalen Richard the team's MVP.
San Jose Mercury News: Raiders vs. Steelers: 3 things to watch on Sunday
For the third straight week the Raiders (2-10) are double-digit underdogs, this time as the AFC North-best Steelers (7-4-1) venture west for a 1:25 p.m. PST kickoff on Sunday at the Oakland Coliseum.
Ben Roethlisberger has never won in Oakland in three tries, but he also went 8-1 against Paul Guenther when the Raiders' defensive coordinator called plays for the Bengals' defense from 2014-17.
The Raiders currently sit tied for the worst record in the NFL along with their Bay Area partners, but the 49ers own the tiebreaker with a weaker strength of schedule.
As the Steelers play for the playoffs and the Raiders play for pride, let's have a look at three things to keep an eye on when the two old rivals meet.
San Jose Mercury News: Osemele, Martin, Roberts questionable for Raiders vs. Steelers
ALAMEDA -- Guard Kelechi Osemele, running back Doug Martin and wide receiver Seth Roberts remained questionable Friday to face the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Raiders (2-10) host the Steelers (7-4-1) Sunday at 1:25 p.m. at the Coliseum.
Osemele, who earlier this season missed two games with a knee injury, sat out practice with a toe injury after being limited the previous two days.
Martin, the Raiders' leading rusher, was a full participant but in a walkthrough setting and hasn't been cleared by the medical staff to play after sustaining a knee injury against Kansas City.
Like Osemele and Martin, Roberts, the Raiders' slot receiver, was listed as questionable but his availability is in the hands of doctors since he has yet to clear concussion protocol.
Behind the Steel Curtain: Expert Picks: Who NFL experts predict will win the Steelers vs. Raiders game in Week 14
The Pittsburgh Steelers are 7-4-1 entering their Week 14 game with the 2-10 Oakland Raiders, and on paper this is exactly what the Steelers need to end their two game winning streak and get their final quarter of the season off to the right start before facing the likes of the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints in consecutive weeks.
If only they played the game on paper...
The Steelers cross-country trek to Oakland hasn't been a pretty one for the black-and-gold. The last time Pittsburgh went to Oakland and won was in 1995, and Neil O'Donnell was the quarterback.

Bet on Oakland Raiders to take advantage of sliding favorite
The Oakland Raiders face a Pittsburgh Steelers team that, for all its talent, has not been blowing people out. The Steelers have lost two straight to the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers and should have lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
