Buffalo Rumblings: Buffalo Bills eliminated from 2018 NFL playoffs with loss to New York Jets
The Buffalo Bills have been eliminated from the playoff race with their loss to the New York Jets. Even if Buffalo wins out to get to seven wins, they won't be able to pass teams in the Wild Card race.
With the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiegs already past the eight-win mark, Buffalo wasn't going to catch the second place team in the AFC West. On Sunday, they also fell behind both of the top two teams in the AFC North.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens both have seven wins and a much better conference record than Buffalo if it came down to that tiebreaker with the Ravens.
Buffalo Rumblings: Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets, round two: first half open thread
The Buffalo Bills host the New York Jets today in the second contest between divisional foes of the 2018 NFL season. In the first meeting, the Bills trounced the Jets, winning 41-10 at MetLife Stadium.
Both teams were without their highly-touted rookie quarterbacks in that game, so fans were treated to a backup bowl matchup of Matt Barkley vs. Josh McCown. Today, both teams have their rookies ready to go, as Josh Allen and Sam Darnold will start their first professional game against the other. Allen makes his third start since returning from a sprained throwing elbow, while Darnold will make his first start since suffering a foot sprain against the Miami Dolphins in Week 11.
Consensus betting prediction from the Covers.com community:
Buffalo Bills (64% consensus). With little else for which to play in the standings, the New York Jets are seeking a measure of revenge when they travel to Buffalo on Sunday to meet the Bills. The Jets were 3-6 after suffering three straight losses but still hoping to turn things around heading into a Week 10 matchup with the struggling Bills at home, only to lay an egg in an embarrassing 41-10 loss to their AFC East foes... http://bit.ly/2B2qYlj

Newsday: Jets help Sam Darnold prepare for Buffalo cold
By AL IANNAZZONE
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Jets spent the first two days of practice this week outside on their wide-open fields in the frigid cold to help prepare them for what they will face Sunday.
This was for everyone on the team's benefit, but particularly for Sam Darnold.
The Jets rookie quarterback is expected to return Sunday from a three-game absence with a foot injury.
Darnold grew up in Southern California and played his college ball at USC. That's a long way from Buffalo, where temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s.
Buffalo Rumblings: Five Buffalo Bills to watch at home against the New York Jets
The Buffalo Bills look to sweep the season series against the New York Jets on Sunday after winning the first match 41-10. This time around, the Bills and the Jets will have different quarterbacks under center for the game. The anticipated matchup between Josh Allen and Sam Darnold was delayed due to both rookies dealing with injuries that forced them to miss multiple games. Now, the Bills host the very first in what should be a long line of contests between the two top-ten draft choices. Josh Allen is always going to be a key to the Bills' success, but there are other players that need to make an impact, as well.
Elite Sports NY: New York Jets Week 14 goals in Buffalo: Sam Darnold cooking
The New York Jets franchise quarterback is healthy again and ready to take back the reigns for the final quarter of the season. Aside from draft position, which of course is not a thought in the mind of any player or coach, the best positive development the Jets can get out of this final string is a strong finish from Sam Darnold.
Darnold remains the NFL's leader in interceptions with 14, and his 68.3 quarterback rating is 32nd of 34 qualifiers, ahead of only fellow rookies Josh Rosen and Josh Allen. He's had some low valleys in which his struggles to push the ball downfield, recognize open receivers, and lead late comebacks have cost the team.

Buffalo Rumblings: New York Jets eliminated from playoffs days before game against Buffalo Bills
The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets were both eliminated from the AFC playoff race on Thursday night when the Tennessee Titans defeated the Jaguars, pushing their record to 7-6. Both the Jaguars and Jets have nine losses.
It's good timing for the Bills, whose playoff hopes are still on life support. The Jets looked like they had given up the last time Buffalo played them, and now with nothing on their calendar but four meaningless games down the stretch and potentially a lame duck coach, they are in warm-up-the-bus mode.
Elite Sports NY: New York Jets-Buffalo Bills: 5 questions with BuffaLowDown
It's a rematch of AFC East titans, but this time finally we'll see Josh Allen vs. Sam Darnold for the first time in their respective careers. If the cards are played right, this will renew the New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills rivalry for the next decade plus.
On this edition of "Behind Enemy Lines," Boy Green sat down with Daniel Hahn of the BuffaLowDown to ask five burning questions heading into this matchup.1. Josh Allen has been super impressive running the football, how has his game developed pre-injury and post-injury?
Since the injury, Josh Allen has drastically improved his decision making and pocket awareness.
CBS: Jets, Bills Futures Front And Center As Rookie QBs Set For Sunday Showdown
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The only time rookie quarterbacks Josh Allen and Sam Darnold got on the field when the Bills faced the Jets a month ago was to shake hands following Buffalo's lopsided victory.
On Sunday, much more is anticipated from both when the two AFC East teams meet in Orchard Park.
Allen, drafted seventh overall, will make his third start for Buffalo since missing four games with a sprained right throwing elbow. And the Jets' Darnold, drafted third, is on track to return since missing three games with a strained right foot.
Newsday: Jets coach Todd Bowles only focused on Bills, not his future
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Todd Bowles didn't feel like being reflective about his four seasons as the Jets' coach or how much of a toll this season has taken on him.
There are four games left in the Jets' season, and likely Bowles' time as their coach. But despite the six-game losing streak, all the talk about his job security and seeing his name dragged through the mud, Bowles says he isn't looking forward to the Dec. 30 finale at New England.
True to his nature, the only thing Bowles is concerned with is getting his team prepared for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Fansided: Buffalo Bills settled in as favorites in Week 14 matchup against the Jets
The Buffalo Bills are back home this Sunday and return as favorites as the lowly New York Jets head to town.
The Jets have lost six straight after a 3-3 start. The fourth loss in the streak came against the Bills, when Matt Barkley went off and led his new team to a 41-10 victory. If that is the only game Barkley plays in as a member of the Bills, he will go out a hero.
As one may guess, the Bills are favorites on the betting lines to the tune of 3.
Elite Sports NY: New York Jets: Jamal Adams says Sunday's game vs. Bills is 'personal'
FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY--It's said that revenge is a dish best served cold. Fortunately for New York Jets safety Jamal Adamsmgli, Sunday afternoon temperatures in Orchard Park are expected to drop into the 20s.
To open December, the Jets (3-9) will close out their annual couple against the Buffalo Bills (4-8) at New Era Field on Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m. ET, CBS). On Wednesday, Adams made it clear he hasn't forgotten about the first half of that pair.
Back on Nov. 11, the Jets' season still bore a semblance of sanity.
ESPN.com: Slumping Jets want payback against Bills: 'It's personal'
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets can't erase three months of bad football in one afternoon, but a victory Sunday would provide a temporary reprieve from the ugliness. Revenge has that power. It can ease the pain for a few hours, maybe a few days.
The Jets want payback. Badly.
Four weeks ago, they suffered one of the worst defeats in franchise history, a 41-10 humiliation to the Buffalo Bills. The Jets were not competitive from the first play to the last, embarrassing themselves against fourth-string quarterback Matt Barkley.
NY Post: Looks like Jets-Bills will be Sam Darnold vs. Josh Allen, Round 1
It looks like we will get the first chapter of Sam Darnold versus Josh Allen on Sunday in Buffalo, the first of what could be many battles in the AFC East between the two rookie quarterbacks.
Darnold and Allen were the second and third quarterbacks selected in this year's draft. The Jets took Darnold with the No. 3 pick and Allen went No. 7 to Buffalo, setting up a quarterback rivalry that both teams hopes lasts a long time.
Neither quarterback was healthy for the teams' first meeting last month -- which led to Josh McCown versus Matt Barkley, not quite as sexy a matchup.
NY Post: Jets at Bills: How Sam Darnold is swinging betting line
Indications are good that rookie quarterback Sam Darnold will return to the Jets lineup this Sunday on the road at Buffalo. That news caused minor adjustments to the opening line of Bills -3 1/2. Various shops globally have either lifted the vigorish on the Jets +3 1/2 to -120, or dropped the line to Buffalo -3 with -120 vigorish on the Bills. We'll monitor the markets for updates through the week.
Darnold has been getting more market respect than his backup, Josh McCown. This past Sunday's point spread at Tennessee rose from Jets +8 to +10 when it was confirmed prior to kickoff that Darnold would be out.
