Steelers Depot: Steelers Vs Panthers Positional Grades

Now THAT was the performance Pittsburgh Steelers fans have been waiting for with this group for the last two years.

The Steelers dominated in all phases of the game on Thursday Night Football, rolling to an impressive 52-21 over the visiting Carolina Panthers at Heinz Field, pushing the Steelers into the upper echelon of the AFC contenders.

While the offense put up 45 of the 52 points, the Steelers' defense had a strong performance on Thursday night, outside of the first drive of the game for the Panthers. Along with a pick-6, the Steelers recorded five sacks of Cam Newton and held Carolina's high-powered offense to under 300 total yards, showing up in a big way on primetime.

Cat Scratch Reader: These key plays swung momentum and decided the Panthers 52-21 road loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, putting Carolina's record at 6-3.

Plays to Love, Plays to Hate (aka "P2L, P2H") looks at the most significant plays in swinging momentum and impacting the eventual outcome of the game. There is always plenty to hate about NFL officiating, so we will only focus on the plays on the field, not the refs.

    Three Two plays to love

    1st Quarter 11:19 - Panthers 0, Steelers 0. Panthers ball 4th-and-1 at PIT 22

The Situation: The Panthers had taken the opening possession down to the Pittsburgh 22 and faced 4th-and-1.

Fansided: Panthers pounded 52-21 in ugly loss vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Although this was a game that started off strong, it quickly turned ugly for the Carolina Panthers. They played uninspired football on Thursday as they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score. In a game that was thought to be crucial for the team under the primetime lights, they folded. The Panthers looked as though they couldn't handle the spotlight. In the meantime, the Steelers played inspired football and showed the rest of the National Football League that they are a force to be reckoned with.

In the first quarter, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead.

It's hard to trust this Carolina team but they have looked great last 2 weeks and have the offense to keep pace with Pittsburgh, I think Big Ben goes off tonight but I still think Carolina keeps it close and going to take the 3.5 points. too good pass up. Maybe something on the Over 51.

The Panthers have been flying under the radar with wins in five of their last six games but if they are able to hold out tonight they won't be able to stay quiet for long. Newton has not had a turnover and the defense continues to make the plays. They have covered five of their last eight games against the spread when they are marked as underdogs of at least three points. The Steelers had a rough start but are turning their season around since Big Ben has started looking more like himself. The Steelers defense hasn't given up more than 21 points in their four game winning streak. Pittsburgh has failed to cover five of their last seven games when favored by three points or more. I've won betting on the Panthers this season but they aren't as good on the road as they are at home. With their offense finally on a roll, Pittsburgh will be too much for the Panthers at home.

Pittsburgh RT Marcus Gilbert (knee) missed last week and his status for this game is uncertain. The defense are at a major disadvantage in short week situations and the Steelers will have a difficult time containing Cam Newton. Look for both offense to find success and push this game over the total. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Steelers win in high scoring game 31-27.

This is a battle of two of the hottest teams in the NFL, which may actually present a quality Thursday night game. I don't see a lot of value here tonight for bettors as either team could win this game. I do think it will be a close game and it could be decided by a field goal, IMO that makes the 3.5 point spread a half-point more than it should be. For that reason I'll take Carolina and the points. My Pick: Carolina Panthers +3.5

The Carolina Panthers have gotten their shit together the last 3 games and one of the hotter teams in the NFL right now, but I'm still not a believer in this team. The Pittsburgh Steelers have turned their season around, as Big Ben is starting to look like Big Ben of old and the Steelers young defense has stepped up and playing much better allowing no more than 21 points during this four-game winning streak. I've been betting and winning on the Carolina Panthers this season, but I like them a lot more at home than I do on the road. The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be too much here tonight on their home field, not to mention Carolina will be without safety Da'Norris Searcy (Concussion) and Torrey Smith (Knee) is doubtful. I'm laying the 3 points with Pittsburgh tonight. Final Score Prediction: Pittsburgh 31- Carolina 23

Steelers Depot: Steelers Wednesday Injury Report Week 10: Gilbert, McCullers Ruled Out For Panthers Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now released their final injury report for Week 10 ahead of their Thursday night home game against the Carolina Panthers and the Wednesday offering shows that two players have officially been ruled out for that contest.

After not practicing again on Wednesday, the Steelers officially ruled out tackle Marcus Gilbert (knee) and defensive tackle Daniel McCullers (ankle) for the team's Thursday night game against the Panthers.

This will mark the third consecutive game that Gilbert has missed with his knee injury. Backup offensive lineman Matt Feiler is once again expected to start in place of Gilbert at right tackle.

Fansided: 3 key matchups to watch as Panthers face Steelers

Nothing like a little Thursday night football to break up the monotony of the week. The Carolina Panthers will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a matchup that has seen David Tepper at the reins of both. The Steelers come into this game with a 5-2 record, while the Panthers have a one-game edge with a 6-2 mark. High-powered offenses go toe-to-toe as both team looks to make a statement under the primetime lights.

The last time these two teams met in the regular season was in September 2014. The Steelers beat the Panthers handily by a 37-19 score.

Cat Scratch Reader: Panthers at Steelers Wednesday injury report: Ryan Kalil will be a 'game time decision' on Thursday night

The Panthers aren't 100% confident in whether or not center Ryan Kalil will be ready to go in time for their Thursday Night Football game against the Steelers tomorrow, so he has been officially declared as a game time decision according to Ron Rivera.

If Kalil is unable to play, Tyler Larsen would start in his place.

Ron Rivera says Ryan Kalil will be a game-time decision. Trainers will work him out Thursday. Tyler Larsen will be the starter if Kalil can't go.

    -- Joe Person (@josephperson) November 7, 2018

Torrey Smith will once again be out for Carolina, but Rivera is confident that the other guys who are listed as questionable--Eric Reid, David Mayo and Mario Addison--will be able to play tomorrow night.

Steelers Depot: Steelers Versus Panthers: Week 10 Projected Inactive List

The Pittsburgh Steelers will play the Carolina Panthers Thursday night at home and if you're like me, you're counting down the hours until the game begins. As usual, I will attempt to project the seven inactives for every Steelers game of the 2018 season and below is my best guess as to which seven players won't be given helmets Thursday night at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

Game inactives are officially announced 90 minutes before kickoff, so make sure you check back at that time to see the names of the players for both teams who will be sitting the game out.

  • November 7 at 4:53pm

Cat Scratch Reader: Panthers at Steelers offensive preview: The Panthers face a rising Steelers defense on a short week

The Carolina Panthers were able to build an early lead against NFC South foe Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the Panthers 42-28 win, Cam Newton (19-of-25, 247 yards) threw a pair of touchdown passes for 19 yards to Curtis Samuel and 17 yards to Greg Olsen. For the seventh straight game, Newton has had at least two scores through the air. Despite the Bucs' attempt to make a comeback in the second half, the Panthers offense put together a winning drive in the 4th to take home the win.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the hottest team in the AFC right now.
