New York Giants vs Washington Football Team 9/16/2021

Predictions & Game Chat

Tonight we have an NFC East Thursday Night Football matchup between the New York Giants and the Washington Football Team. Washington lost starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to a hip injury and backup Taylor Heinecke will take his place tonight. Saquon is active for the Giants as they ease him back from his ACL injury he suffered last season. I think both of these defenses have the ability to keep this a low scoring matchup and I don’t think we will see many points tonight.

The Giants last 7 games as an underdog the total has gone under. New York’s last 7 games on the road the under has gone 6-1. Washington has a top defensive unit and the Giants should be able to slow down Washington’s offense enough to keep it a tight game where the total lands under 40.5. I’ll take the the under for tonight.

Under 40.5

PLAYER PROPS are the only enticing bets for this Thursday night matchup. Best play of the night is Darius Slayton OVER 3 catches (-110) Last week Slayton was targeted 7 times and averaged 21.7 yards per catch. Last year Slayton averaged 6 targets a game. Even with the addition of Kenny Golladay I think Slayton will be relied on as the Giants deep threat. With this being a divisional game against Chase Young and the dirty boys expect Daniel Jones to rely heavily on receivers he's familiar with to get the job done. This means that Slayton will still get more targets than newly acquired receiver Kenny Golladay. 3 is a low number for the average amount of targets he receives a game. Bang the over three and enjoy your Thursday night.

I don't have any more faith in the Giants' offense (or Daniel Jones) than I do WFT's offense (or QB Heinicke), and I do think Washington's defense is the best unit that will be in this game. That's enough for me to take Washington in what I think will be low scoring.

Prediction: Washinton 20- Giants 13

With Ryan Fitzpatrick out for at least half the season with a hip injury, Washington will turn to 7-year pro Taylor Heinicke in Week 2 against the Giants. The question anyone placing a bet on this game needs to ask themselves is how much will Washington be hurt by Fitzpatrick's absence?

Heinicke looked great in Week 1 after coming in for the injured Fitzpatrick. He completed 11 of 15 for 122 yards, 1 TD, and a 119 QB rating. Washington wasn't going to get anything better out of Fitzpatrick.

As for the Giants, their QB situation is quite different. 24-year-old Daniel Jones either still has the potential to be a superstar or is on the verge of being a bust depending on who you talk to. All Washington will care about is that Jones has a career 4-0 record against them and will be looking to make that 5-0 in week 2.

This should be a low-scoring game featuring two struggling offences. I like Washington on the moneyline here as oddsmakers may be putting too much stock into Fitzpatrick being out of the lineup.

Not the sexist matchup here. Where are the Giants' edges? I cannot find any. Washington's defense is stellar and while the Giants' defense is respectable it is not elite. I like the matchup here taking an elite front (Washington's front seven) against a weak front (NYG O-line). NYG will be missing a starting offensive lineman in Shane Lemieux.

Taylor Heinicke is about to get an extended run as an NFL starter for the first time with Ryan Fitzpatrick missing approximately 8 weeks. "I think our guys will rally around him," Rivera said of Heinicke during a press conference this week. "He plays a little bit like his hair's on fire and plays a little bit like a gunslinger. "He understands what he has to do and how he has to do it. I'm excited to see what's going to happen." Heinicke was not terrible in that playoff game last year, and he is less likely to turn the ball over compared to Jones in what should be a conservative game.

I would take Antonio Gibson above Saquon Barkley as the top running back on the field. Barkley averaged 1.8 yards last season before suffering his ACL tear. He averaged 2.6 yards against the Broncos in 10 carries. Barkley is not ticketed for heavy duty here playing his second game in four days following his serious knee surgery. Gibson will be heavily featured.

I like the Washington Football Team (Redskins) minus the 3.5 in this spot for $250. Would be a max wager ($500) at minus 3. Best of luck bashing the books tonight.

Taking the Giants at +3.5 is the best play I think. The under is also a good play but the sharps push the number too low for me to take it at 40.5. I just think the giants have better playmakers on the offensive side to at least cover the spread. Washington offense is going to struggle again and they better be calling Cam Newton after this game tonight lol. Good luck tonight guys!

What happen when two struggling teams face each other? Low score, I am saying not. If they were facing a decent team yes…but vs each other mid twenties each…27-21 or 24-21

After Week 1, so far it looks like the same theme for the lowly, NFC East Division. Both of these teams struggle to get consistent offense going, but do manage to stay in games. In Week 1, the Giants lost to the Denver Broncos 27-13. They were only down 10-7 at halftime and just couldn't find the end zone in the second half. Washington for the most part played pretty well against the Los Angeles Chargers and lost 20-16.

In this game, the Giants need to work on their rushing game and getting that big defensive stop when they need to. Washington needs better third down defense and passing defense. Washington went up against a good, young arm in Justin Herbert and their defense should be able to limit those high passing yards plays. With both teams trying to get consistent momentum in a game, look for field goals, incomplete passes, and decent D. The total has gone UNDER in 8 of NY Giants' last 8 games. The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Washington's last 7 games. Washington wins 20-13.

Washington gave the Chargers all they wanted despite having to go to their backup quarterback in the first half and struggling to move the ball for the majority of the game.

Washington’s defense clamped down in the red zone, holding the Chargers to two of six when it came to putting touchdowns on the board once they got inside the 20.

The Giants have had Washington’s number in the last few seasons but we know how erratic Daniel Jones can be on any given night. WFT is just starting to become a solid team under Ron Rivera.

New York is still working on getting everyone up to speed on the offensive side of the ball and we have to see them put together a decent showing on the road before you can take them seriously. Not sure Joe Judge is the guy to get the Giants back on track. Take the Football Team at home as they even their record.

Prediction: Washington Football Team

NFC EAST ACTION last year the Giants swept Washington both teams coming off of week 1 losses,The Giants gave up 165 yds rushing and Washington gave up 337 yds in the air last week,Washington also missed a crucial field goal and a bad fumble in the redzone vs the Chargers. In the last 9 games the Giants total has been under,This week they are going to have to feed the ball to Barkley if they want to contain Chase Young on the pass rush,I think Jones could be in for a rough night on Thursday night football.Take Washington-3

Hi Everyone! First of all. I would like to add that Thursday Night Football games are notorious for LOW SCORING GAMES. Last week was an exception because it was the first game of the season and both teams didn't play the Sunday before.. Secondly.. Washington's defense is pretty good but don't have really any offense at the time either.. So with the Giants having offensive struggles of their own, I can't see either team really putting up a ton of points.. I actually wouldn't be surprised if the final score is like 9-3 or something like that.. I'd stay away from the +/-3.5 spread since it's going to be a field goal type game and the best value is going to be on the UNDER 41 points.. Some are offering 40.5 but I would try to get 41 if you can. ALSO. I just started making videos on my twitter account which I am 100% correct on my picks this season so far so please go follow my account at @Austenspicks thanks everyone!

I’m scared for the New York Giants offensive line. They officially gave just two sacks to the Denver Broncos in their Week 1 game, but there were more blown blockings that made it difficult for Daniel Jones to have good throws. This week, the Giants will be up against division rival Washington which has the likes of Montez Sweat and Chase Young on the defensive line.

Sterling Sheppard had a 100-yard game against Denver and Jones will continue to look for him. However, the Giants must activate Saquon Barkley to vary their attack. Meanwhile, Taylor Heinicke will have another chance of being Washington’s starting quarterback and he did fairly well in Week 1 replacing Ryan Fitzpatrick. A solid outing against the Giants might help solidify his position as starting quarterback.

Terry McLaurin will have a field day against New York now that he’s the undisputed first option in their passing game. Likewise, the Washington offensive line will open paths for Antonio Gibson to operate. If Washington lost their season opener to the Los Angeles Chargers, they will chalk up a victory against the Giants in this Thursday Night Football encounter.

If Fitzpatrick was starting as Redskin QB, then Washington would probably win the game but without him, have to go with Giants. Since I'm a Giants fan, I am liking that. Hate betting against my team.

Jones is a pretty good QB even though he stunk up the joint Sunday vs. the Broncos. Hopefully, it was just opening day jitters and he bounces back to make the hogs cry whee, whee, whee all the way to the butcher.

Washington’s defensive line is the real deal this year as shown by their limiting of the Chargers run game in week 1 (90 yards on 29 attempts), but their pass defense was much weaker with Justin Herbert throwing for 334 yards at a 7.2 yards per pass attempt clip. However, this week against the Giants is a much different story with a different caliber of quarterback on the opposing side. Herbert may be All-Pro caliber this year and Daniel Jones isn’t even in the same stratosphere as Herbert. Washington has quarterback problems of their own though with Fitzpatrick being out with a knee injury and will be starting Taylor Heinicke. Heinickie was good in spot starts last year, but doesn’t bring the same experience that Fitzpatrick does, leading me to believe this game will be a low scoring slug it out style matchup. The Giants were held to just 13 points against the Denver Broncos, and Daniel Jones won’t do enough to balance out the Giants run game against the Washington defense. Without offensive balance, Washington's elite defensive front should create a lot of negative plays and easily stop the run, while their defensive backfield will do enough to slow down the Giants’ passing game.

As for Washington's offense, a run heavy game plan utilizing their star, Antonio Gibson, will be enough to not only control the game, but also open the play action passing attack for Heinecki and put up points. The Giants gave up 27 points to a less than lethal Denver team and they’re not going to do enough to stop the Washington offense.

Prediction: Washington controls the game with their rushing attack and force enough turnovers/negative plays to give their offense easier scoring chances. Daniel Jones will get hit a lot and throw an interception or two. Take Washington to win outright and most likely cover the spread at 3.5.

The Giant's offense was shut down by the Broncos last Sunday in an ugly showing. Daniel Jones scored a last-second TD to pad the score or else it would have looked a lot worse for the Giants. Danny Dimes should now be called Danny Drops as he continues to pile up the turnovers and fails to live up to expectations. The defense also failed to do its part as they gave up over 400 yards to the mediocre Broncos offense, which was without stud WR Jerry Jeudy for a good portion of this game.

Washington lost Fitzmagic to a hip injury and failed to build any momentum against the Chargers as the Chargers squeaked out a win in a close one. The defensive line lived up to the hype as they held Ekeler and the rest of the Charger's run game to under 100 yards but their secondary got lit up by Justin Herbert as he passed for 334 yards and a TD.

This will surely be a low-scoring matchup with Fitzpatrick running the Washington offense, but Heinicke will do enough, and the defense will look to limit Barkley’s impact as they look to go to 1-1 on the year. My pick- Washington -3.5.
