Denver Broncos 4-8 (7-5 ATS) are playing Houston Texans 8-4 (6-6 ATS) on Dec 8, 2019, 1:00pm ET at NRG Stadium. The Texans opened at -7.5 in Vegas and the current line is HOU -9.
Given what the Texans just did to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, Sunday is going to be a tough test for Rookie QB Drew Lock and the Broncos. Houston currently leads the AFC South and holds the third seed in the AFC if the playoffs started today. Denver, while not eliminated yet, has less than one-percent chance to make the postseason and is more so working on progression and some positive elements moving into the offseason.
Rookie Drew Lock started his first game last weekend, picking up 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. While it's been a letdown season for LA, they still hoist one of the more talented defenses in the NFL so it's safe to say Lock was impressive in his debut. Lock threw two touchdowns, one interception, and had a passer rating of 84.5 in the win.
The Broncos are 0-6 if their opponent scores 21 points or more and the Texans are one of the more potent offenses in the NFL lead by QB Deshaun Watson. Houston has the 7th best rushing attack and 12th best passing attack while ranking 10th in scoring. However, Houston is just 2-6-1 ATS in its last nine as chalk and 5-10 ATS in its last 15 as home favorites. They play to the level of their competition more than anyone in the AFC.
- LB Von Miller Questionable
- OT Ja’Wuan James Probable
- OG Ron Leary Doubtful
- Denver is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games this season.
- Houston is 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games against the AFC West.
- Houston is 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games.
The Texans offense is absolutely potent and if the defense can add to some things they did last week against Brady, this team is a serious Super Bowl Contender and dark horse. For Denver to have a chance, it needs to get Houston on its heels and keep it that way for four quarters - I don't expect that one bit with Lock likely seeing a lot of pressure. FINAL SCORE - Texans 26, Broncos 14 (UNDER)
Report: Von Miller (knee) is Expected to play Sunday.
December 8, 2019 Miller (knee) is considered a true game-time call for Sunday's game against the Texans, but is suited up and expected to play. James Palmer of NFL Network reports. ANALYSIS Miller missed last week's game against the Chargers, and logged a trio of limited practices while dealing with an MCL sprain in his left knee. His workout pregame will have a strong say as to whether the All-Pro pass rusher can suit up or not. If Miller is forced to miss his second consecutive contest, Jeremiah Attaochu figures to again draw the start with Justin Hollins in line for an uptick in usage
While there are good pieces on the Broncos roster they still have some glaring holes on their team. This Houston squad just put together a complete game against the Patriots and I think they put together another great game and win all three phases of the game. Texans cover at home and win by double digits.
Trap game for the Texans today? Fangios Defense will have to make Watson uncomfortable. He can throw from the pocket and scrambling, but the interior defensive line: Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell must get A and B gap pressures. DBs must look alive and adapt to Watson extending plays. Offense will attack Roby. Hes coming off a good game last week and Injury but his coverage is still a liability. Does Lock get his 2nd win in a row? Probably not but I think the Denver Bronco's do enough to keep this one inside the number. Score prediction: Denver 24- Houston 27.
Bill OBrien as a home favorite is always a stay-away betting proposition, but you've got to lean going with Watson over Lock in this matchup and I think the Texans defense will make things very uncomfortable for young Lock on the road. Denver suffers its second straight beat-down on the road as Broncos run defense, sans Wolfe, suffers a setback and Lock is sacked four times.

One week after a dominant performance against Tom Brady and the Patriots, the AFC South-leading Texans look to avoid a letdown when they host the lowly Broncos. Denver is still playing hard for first-year head coach Vic Fangio, beating the Chargers last week to improve to 4-1 ATS in its last five. Original matchup: http://bit.ly/37Sd9DF
