Kent St. Golden Flashes vs Georgia Bulldogs Recap for September 24th, 2022, 12:00PM ET
Kent St. is playing Georgia at the Sanford Stadium stadium on Saturday, 9/24/2022 @ 12:00pm EST. Georgia -44.5 was the opening favorite and line hasn't moved.
Golden Flashes haven't shied away from tough opponents. During their first two road games, they lost 45-20 to Washington and 33-3 to Oklahoma. 63-10 was Kent State's final score against FCS foe Long Island last week.
Kent's games have varied significantly, but they are averaging 28.7 points per game, ranking 24th in rushing yards with 221.3, and 110th in passing yards with 175.7. The Kent offense has been led by Collin Schlee, who has completed 60% of his passes for 508 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. In addition, he has run for 177 yards on 24 attempts. Kent's Dante Cephas is a big play receiver (82 catches, 1,240 yards, 9 touchdowns in 2021). Against Washington in the season opener, he caught 14 passes for 230 yards, including 105 yards.
On defense, the Golden Flashes have been descent and have allowed 29.4 ppg, which ranks 56th with 126 rushing yards, and 123rd with 294.7 passing yards allowed. So don’t look for Georgia to just steam roll this Kent State defense.
In their first three games, Georgia has outscored Oregon, Samford, and South Carolina by a combined 130-10.
So far, there haven't been many weaknesses revealed. The Bulldogs allow only 3.3 points per game, 165.3 passing yards per game, and 83.7 rushing yards per game. With 532.2 total yards per game, the offense ranks sixth overall, third with 376.7 passing yards, and 79th with 155.7 rushing yards.
Stetson Bennett is back after leading Georgia to last year's national championship. With five touchdowns and no interceptions, he has completed 73.9% of his passes for 952 yards.
Prediction: Georgia opened the season with a 49-3 victory over then No. 11 ranked Oregon. The following game, Georgia "only" beat Samford by 33 as a 53-point favorite before beating South Carolina by 41 as a 25-point favorite.
Samford is a better team than Kent State. Despite trailing Oklahoma 7-3 at halftime, they scored 20 points against Washington this season. Georgia can still beat Kent State by 45+ if they want to, but with the SEC schedule beginning next week, don't expect Georgia to show too much or risk any key injuries. Although Kent State lacks the talent to match up with Georgia, the Golden Flashes should be able to compete for 60 minutes and keep this game within 45 points.
