Bowling Green has been solid at throwing the football and having someone like senior wide receiver Odieu Hiliare get the ball thrown to him has been a great help. His season totals include 12 catches for 143 yards (11.9 yards per reception) with three touchdowns, and six rushing attempts for five yards (0.8 yards per carry). A pair of touchdown receptions and a pair of carries for -4 yards (-2 yards per attempt) rounded out Hilaire's best game of the year against Marshall. He finished with four receptions for 79 yards (19.8 yards per catch) and a pair of touchdown receptions. It will be an excellent position for the offense if he can continue to build on his performance.
Throughout the season, the Bowling Green Falcons have struggled on the defensive side of the ball, giving up 45 points on 538.3 total yards. Against the Marshall Thundering Herd, they allowed 31 points on 547 yards of offense (356 passing, 191 rushing). It's important for the Falcons to figure out how to get to the ball quicker since they have allowed 5.2 rushing yards per attempt throughout the game. A fumble was recovered by senior defensive lineman Karl Brooks, and a pass was intercepted by sophomore safety Trent Simms.
The offense for Mississippi State has been doing pretty well as sophomore wide receiver Rara Thomas has done pretty well. To this point, Thomas has 14 catches for 211 yards (15.1 yards per reception) and a pair of touchdown catches. Last time out, he had four receptions for 67 yards (16.8% yards per catch) and a receiving touchdown against the LSU Tigers. Thomas will be able to be more active in the game if he is targeted a bit more.
With 342 yards of offense per game, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are allowing 23.7 points. They gave up 31 points against the LSU Tigers in their last game on 417 yards (210 passing, 207 rushing). As a team, the Tigers have done a decent job preventing money downs in their last game against the Bulldogs, going 6-of-15 on third down attempts and 1-of-2 on fourth down attempts. They also struggled against the running game as the Tigers were able to run for 5.4 yards per carry throughout the game.
Injury Report: The Bowling Green Falcons have three players currently on their injury list as senior center Jakari Robinson is questionable for this game due to eligibility. However, they will be without senior wide receiver Austin Osborne with an upper body injury as well as sophomore running back Terion Stewart, who is dealing with a personal issue.
