LSU Tigers 9-0 (6-2-1 ATS) are playing Mississippi Rebels 4-6 (6-4 ATS) on Nov 16, 2019, 7:00pm ET at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field. The Rebels opened at +21 in Vegas and the current line is O-MISS +21.5.
Fresh off the heels of an eye-popping win in Tuscaloosa, The Tigers are riding high after with one of the best offenses in the country as they head into the Magnolia Bowl to face the Mississippi Rebels. This is a natural spot for a let down after the emotional win against Bama and coach Ed Orgeron will have to bring his team back down to Earth in order to get out of Oxford with a win. A cover on the other hand, will prove even more difficult against an Ole Miss team that has been a letdown by all standards, but are 6-4 ATS this season.
Joe Burrow Show:
Joe Burrow has taken control of the Heisman Trophy Race. The senior has completed 78.9% of his passes while throwing 33 TDs and just under 3200 yards on the season. To do what he did and how he did it, against the Crimson Tide (393 yards/ 3 TDs/0 INT)sis some kind of special. He should be able to pad his stats against an Ole Miss team that has the worst pass defense in the SEC (274.2 yds/game allowed).
3-Headed Rushing Attack:
Freshman duel threat John Rhys Plumlee is essentially a one-trick pony at this point in his young career. While the freshman has 777 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns -- a fantastic addition alongside Scottie Phillips and Jerrion Ealy, the staff does not have him throw the ball very often. He has thrown more than 20 times just once in the last month of football. Ole Miss is no ordinary run threat though as they rank 14th Nationally and can effectively find gaps against the Tigers. If they can figure somethings out in the passing game, they can take advantage of an LSU defensive backs unit that is ranked just 85th in FBS. That’s a big If though.
LSU is in a good spot but they can’t take this game lightly nor can they be too aggressive. They have a big game looming against Texas A&M and are dealing with some key injuries that should effect the way we play this line. Both RT Austin Deculus and LT Saahdiq Charles are going to be out and this young Rebels defensive line rank 2nd in the SEC with 2.7 sacks per contest. LSU will likely be able to build a comfortable lead and ideally rest the starters sometime in the late 3rd/early 4th quarter. Because of that and the talent of this young Ole Miss team, I think a backdoor cover is very possible. LSU 43, Ole Miss 24
Give me Ole Miss and the 3 TD's. The Rebels have 6 losses on the year but they have been close in virtually every game this year- including a 6 point loss to top 10 Auburn and a 7 point loss to Top 25 Texas A&M. The Rebels also managed to put up 31 points on Alabama. If they can score that much on the Crimson Tide, then they should be able to score enough here to keep this one within the number.
keep in mind the rebels haven't played an offense like LSU. I mean Auburn just put up 20 on them. And Auburn doesn't have a quarterback. I expect LSU to put up at least 35. which means ole miss will have to score more than 14. Ill roll with LSU -20.5(Buy the Hook)
The Tigers will be without LT Saahdiq Charles (disciplinary reasons) on Saturday the fifth time this season he will sit for that reason. RT Austin Deculus is a game-time decision with an undisclosed injury. He sounds unlikely to play.
Ole Miss RB Scottie Phillips is questionable to play due to an ankle injury. Hes the Rebels second-leading rusher this season, racking up 542 yards and 5 TDs.
Can the Tigers cover a spread of more than 3 TD's? They have certainly looked dominate at times but they could be without both offensive tackles in this game and might be feeling a bit of a hangover after last week.
This total of 65.5 doesn't pass the eye test in my opinion; its hard to see the Rebels scoring enough to push this game over 64.5 points, and as stated, LSU could be without both of their offensive tackles. I would look at the Under here as the best value bet.
What positions might Ole Miss target in the transfer portal? The NCAA transfer portal cuts both ways. While Ole Miss has already had three players leave its roster for the portal in mid-season, and no one would be surprised if more https://247sports.com/college/ole-miss/Article/What-positions-might-Ole-Miss-target-in-the-transfer-portal-138468488/
