    Atlanta Braves
(67% consensus). After a minor blip Tuesday the Atlanta Braves returned to the form that has vaulted them to the verge of the National League East division title, and head into Thursdays contest at the Philadelphia Phillies seeking a series victory and another strong pitching performance. One night after starter Max Fried gave up five runs, Dallas Keuchel pitched six solid innings and three relievers held the lead in a 3-1 victory Wednesday that dropped the Braves magic number to eight... http://bit.ly/2E6ICS7

CBS Philly: Phillies Smack 4 Home Runs In Much-Needed Win Over Braves

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Cesar Hernandez hit one of four Philadelphia home runs and added an RBI single to help the Philadelphia Phillies defeat the Atlanta Braves 9-5 on Thursday night.

J.T. Realmuto, Jean Segura and Adam Haseley also went deep for the Phillies, who remained two games behind the Cubs and Brewers for the second NL wild-card spot.

Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his 39th homer and Ozzie Albies doubled, homered and drove in a pair of runs for the NL-East leading Braves, who are in front of the Nationals by 8 1/2 games.

Jared Hughes (5-5) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Drew Smyly.

The Good Phight: Game Thread 9/12: Braves at Phillies

In case you haven't noticed, the Phillies have been in a generous mood with the Braves this year. Feeling bad for them and their early postseason exit last year, the hometown nine have given the Braves a 15 game cushion and a false sense of security in 2019.

Well guess what, Atlanta? Enough is enough.

    The comeback begins tonight.

    For the Phillies:

The powder blues, otherwise known as the Uniform of the Chosen. They'll face this lineup from the Braves:

Look at that graphic design. Might as well have used comic sans as the font.

Fansided: Atlanta Braves activate Grant Dayton, place A.J. Minter on 60-day IL

A.J. Minter stole the heart of Atlanta Braves fans in 2017 and into 2018 with his Craig Kimbrel-esque motion and his nasty cutter and fastball combo that could touch triple digits.

Minter even made the 2018 postseason roster, pitching two scoreless frames in the NLDS against the Dodgers. Unfortunately, after that, things seemed to fall apart for the righty.

After an effective season plus for Minter where he posted a 3.18 ERA over 81 games while striking out 95 batters over 76.1 innings, 2019 was well, a disaster.

    A 2.

Fansided: Atlanta Braves: Max Fried struggles early as Phillies take Game 2

It wasn't the best of starts for Max Fried on Tuesday evening, Max has been one of the most impressive pitchers for the Atlanta Braves in 2019.

Unfortunately, he was greeted rudely by the Phillies offense in the first inning of Tuesday's contest.

Much like the Braves jumped on Aaron Nola early on Monday, the Phillies returned the favor during Tuesday's first inning.

The Phillies tallied four extra-base hits including 3 home runs in the bottom of the first. This put the Braves offense on the ropes for the remainder of the game.

The Good Phight: Where'd the dingers go? Braves 3, Phillies 1

A lot of home runs have been hit in the majors this season. In fact, so many have been hit that a new record was set with over two weeks left to play.

There it is. A home run by Jonathan Villar.

That's home run number 6,106 this season.

That sets the all-time single season record.-- Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) September 12, 2019

Unfortunately, of those 6,106 (and counting) home runs, none of them were hit by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. One night after their batters went deep five times, the Phillies were kept in the park, and that's a large reason why they lost to the Braves 3-2.

Yahoo! Sports: Flowers, Keuchel help Braves beat Phillies 3-1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Tyler Flowers hit a three-run homer, Dallas Keuchel struck out eight in six innings and the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 Wednesday night.

The Braves reduced their magic number to eight, pending Washington's result at Minnesota.

The Phillies entered two games behind the Cubs for the second NL wild-card spot.

Keuchel (8-5) gave up one run and three hits to win his fifth straight start. Chris Martin struck out the side on nine pitches in the seventh. Shane Greene worked the eighth and Mark Melancon finished for his 10th save in 10 tries with Atlanta.
