San Jose Mercury News: Athletics turn tables on Astros with 21-run, six-home run win

HOUSTON -- What's the best answer to a 15-0 loss? How about a 21-7 win the next day.

For the first time since 1908, every single A's starter had a multi-hit game. The A's hit six home runs through five innings, tying a season-high for home runs in a single game. The A's recorded a season-high 25 hits.

Matt Olson hit his 30th and 31st home runs, joining Mark McGwire and Jason Giambi as the only first basemen in A's history to hit 30 home runs.

Sean Murphy hit two home runs in a three-hit night, the exit velocity on all his contact fell no lower than 100 mph.

San Jose Mercury News: Athletics set records in rout of Houston Astros

HOUSTON -- Matt Olson thought about it for a few seconds, what it meant to flip a 15-0 loss Monday into a 21-7 win against powerhouse-division-rival Houston Astros on Tuesday night.

Extreme score flips call for extreme language.

"It's awesome to respond to... there's no other way to put it, an a**-kicking yesterday," Olson said. "To be able to kind of come back after what happened yesterday, we always know we can compete against these guys. To do it in the fashion we did was nice."

The win came in many fashions. Excruciating death-by-single fashion. Power-barrage fashion.
