  • The anomaly that happened last night is possible with C.C. on the mound but I think they pull it off tonight. Yankees muscle their way through to a win tonight.

  • Yankees win with ease, its chalky tho but the under is the best play. Yankees tighten up their pitching and Boyd should just do enough for the game to go under.

I was going to say New York pitching was garbage yesterday but the whole team stunk up the place. Today might be just as suspect. I haven't liked Sabathia's consistency or play in general this season but I am taking the Yankees' in this spot.

  • CC will start and German will come in after him. Solid pitching options for the Yankees if they dont have to rely on CC to go deep into the game. I think this is the first trial run for the playoffs

  • I think Boyd is going to be some kind of pitcher for the Detroit, but it's Tigers offense that is the red flag. Boyd could rack up some strikeouts tonight but with their anemic offense I think Sabathia and the Yankees pen does enough to win. tough one for Detroit to win. Not in love with this game but would play Yankees -1.5 (-120) on the run line if forced to play it.

    New York Yankees
(72% consensus). Seemingly well on their way to claiming the best record in the majors, the New York Yankees were instead tripped up in stunning fashion by the worst team in baseball. CBS: Yankees And Tigers Postponed, Doubleheader Set For Thursday

DETROIT (AP) -- CC Sabathia's next trip to the mound will have to wait a bit.

The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers were rained out Wednesday night, and the game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Thursday. Sabathia, who has dealt with right knee problems this season, had his start pushed back to the second game of the twin bill.

The 39-year-old Sabathia (5-8) hasn't pitched since Aug. 30. The Yankees left-hander was activated from the injured list Wednesday.

"With CC's knee, yeah, we know it's the number one thing that he's had to deal with for the last few years, and obviously even more so this year, so it's always going to be a challenge," manger Aaron Boone said.

Fansided: Series Preview: The Detroit Tigers host the New York Yankees

The Detroit Tigers head back home to Comerica today to begin a three-game series with the New York Yankees. This series will feature the team with the best record in the MLB against the team with the worst record, and all bets will be on the Yankees to sweep the series. Don't count Detroit out just yet though.

If Detroit hopes to win against New York, they will need to contain the Yankees' powerful offense and take advantage of their average pitching. The Yankees have the second-most home runs in the entire MLB, but they are in the middle of the pack for team ERA.

Fansided: The Detroit Tigers beat the Yankees in a dramatic fashion

Things weren't looking good for the Detroit Tigers tonight after the second inning when they were trailing the team with the best record in the MLB by six runs, but they were able to rally back and end up winning the game 12-11 in a dramatic fashion.

The game started with Edwin Jackson on the mound for Detroit, who immediately gave up a home run in the first and allowed five more to score in the second. With the score 6-0, the Tigers were able to rally back in the bottom of the third off of a sacrifice fly and a series of singles.

The Detroit News: Tigers outslug Yankees 12-11, win on Mercer's walk-off single

Detroit -- Back on Aug. 31, the Tigers helped the Twins establish a new Major League Baseball single-season home run record. The Twins hit six home runs that day, making Comerica Park look like a bandbox.

They surpassed the mark of 267 homers set by the Yankees last season. Incidentally, the Tigers won that game, 10-7.

Ten days later, again at Comerica Park and again at the expense of the Tigers pitching staff, the Yankees on Tuesday also hit six home runs -- retaking their home run record, at least temporarily, with 276. The Twins had one in their 5-0 win over the Nationals are tied with 276.

Bless You Boys: Tigers 12, Yankees 11: Jordy Mercer walks it off in thrilling victory over league's best

It was a battle of worst against first at Comerica Park on Tuesday night. The team with the worst record in Major League Baseball went up against the team with the best, but in true David vs. Goliath fashion, it was your Detroit Tigers who came out victorious against the New York Yankees in a wild 12-11 shootout.

If you turned it off after the second inning, then boy did you miss one heck of a game. The Yankees bludgeoned Tigers' starter Edwin Jackson out of the game with a five run second inning and led 6-0 at that point.

Detroit Free Press: Detroit Tigers rally for wild walk-off win against New York Yankees

What I'm Hearing: USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale tells us what he's hearing regarding which MLB players will take home some hardware at the end of the season. USA TODAY

For the second time in as many weeks, Major League Baseball's single-season team home record was broken at Comerica Park.

But the Tigers - the 100-loss team which won an early April series against the New York Yankees in the Bronx - got the last laugh again. And not with a home run.

Despite watching the Yankees break the Twins' current record for the most home runs hit in a season - Minnesota broke it at Comerica Park last week - the Tigers pulled out a 12-11 walk-off victory Tuesday night.
