  • I think this is a great spot for Bauer to break out of his slump with the Reds. The Mariners have been in rebuild mode for most of the year and that isnt stopping here. While the Reds are all but out of it as well they still have the pieces for a solid team. Look for Bauer to have a bunch of strike outs and finally get some decent run support here. Plus its Joey Votto's Bday so you gotta lean Reds here.

    My Pick: Cincinnati -128 50%

(67% consensus). With an eye toward the future, the Seattle Mariners hope to see another gem from young lefty Justus Sheffield when he faces the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series. Sheffield, acquired in the trade that sent James Paxton to the New York Yankees last offseason, struggled in his first three outings with the Mariners before a stellar five innings at Wrigley Field his last time out... http://bit.ly/2E6GZ6V

Red Reporter: Reds at Mariners, Game 1 - Preview and Lineups

Trevor Bauer is starting his ninth game as a Cincinnati Red this evening and he really needs to clean it up. He has managed just two better-than-decent starts since the trade, and he got embarrassed in three of them. To put it succinctly, he has been bad. His ERA in Red is 8.23.

I suggest you run out and pick up some more beers before this one just in case.

Now, he is clearly not this bad. Of course, I've been wrong about a lot of things in my life, so I wouldn't trust my judgement on that.

Redleg Nation: Cincinnati Reds vs Seattle Mariners - September 10, 2019

The Reds begin their penultimate road trip of 2019 tonight with the first of three games versus the Seattle Mariners. For those wondering, the Reds and Mariners last met in 2016 when the Mariners swept a 3 game series at GABP. Overall, the Reds have won just 2 of 15 games played between the teams. Their most recent win versus the Mariners came in 2013 at GABP. The Reds other win against the Mariners happened in Seattle back in 2007.

The Mariners come into this series at 58-86 having lost 8 of their last 10 games. The Reds enter the series at 67-77, winners of 4 of their last 10.

U.S.S. Mariner: Game 145, Reds at Mariners - How Do You Do, Fellow Kids

Justus Sheffield vs. Trevor Bauer, 7:10pm

I'm really not sure if any player's seen their stock drop quite as fast as Bauer's has. After tossing the ball over the outfield wall when his manager tried to take him out, he was traded to Cincinnati, giving him a couple of months to rebuild value and help out the Reds pitcher reclamation project (eg. Sonny Gray). It uh...it hasn't worked out. In seven appearances for the Reds, he's gone 1-4 with an ERA of 8.23 and a FIP of 5.27. The gains he's made in his strikeout rate and K:BB ratio are still there, which is why his FIP's better than his ERA.

Fansided: Cincinnati Reds jet to the Pacific Northwest to battle the Seattle Mariners

You'll have to forgive the Cincinnati Reds (67-77) if they look a little lost over the next three days as they make their first visit to Seattle since June of 2010. Needless to say, Joey Votto is the only member of the team to appear in a game at T-Mobile Park as a member of the Reds. Based on past history, it's a good thing the Reds rarely appear in the shadow of the Space Needle.

To say Seattle has dominated the series between the two clubs would be kind. The Mariners are 13-2 all-time against the Reds, including a 5-1 mark in the Great Northwest.
