  • You really can't hate the value on Philly here - Vargas is a gamer and while the Braves are a much more complete team, the Braves have the East pretty much wrapped up. Philly is holding on by a thread for the Wildcard. I'll take the value in this one.

(71% consensus). The top four hitters in the Atlanta Braves lineup have fueled the National League East leaders all summer, and the quartet of Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson look to continue assaulting opposing pitchers entering Tuesdays game at the Philadelphia Phillies. The four combined to go 7-for-16 with two homers, six RBIs, three walks and six runs scored in Atlantas 7-2 victory Monday, lowering the Braves magic number to clinch the East to 10... http://bit.ly/2J4p18P

The Good Phight: What a Dick: Phillies 6, Braves 5

Some teams win because they have an elite starting rotation that can shut down opponents on a regular basis. That's not really the Phillies' thing. The pitchers have made it clear that if the Phillies are going to beat teams, the offense pretty much needs to bash them into submission. That strategy worked well on Tuesday, as the Phillies used five home runs - two by Corey Dickerson - to surge past the Braves 6-5.

After the Braves jumped all over Aaron Nola early on Monday, the Phillies returned the favor on Tuesday, jumping all over starter Max Fried in the first inning.

Braves Journal: Braves 5 - Phreaking Phillies 6

As usual, I can never get out of the office in time to catch the whole first inning on MLB.com. Why does the first inning always seems to be momentous on Tuesday night? Would it be too much to ask for a clean first inning once in a while. When I saw what had happened, I had trouble getting back into the game. As bad as Fried was in the first inning, he pulled it together and kept the Braves in the game.

So, for the uninformed, Fried's first inning went popup, HR, HR, 2B, popup, HR, W, and GO.

Talking Chop: Fried looks to continue one trend and quit another as Braves take on Phillies

After picking up a comfortable win in Philadelphia last night, the Braves are looking to continue to chip away at their divisional magic number as they take on the Phillies for the second of four games.

Last night's game was huge because it almost confirms that the Braves have hit sort of a turning point against Aaron Nola after spending past seasons struggling against him a bit. It's especially refreshing since the Braves have successfully knocked out Philadelphia's best starter in the first game of a long series.

While I'm not going to say that there's a huge gulf in quality between Nola and tonight's starter Jason Vargas, there's a pretty decent drop-off between Nola and Vargas.

Talking Chop: Game Thread 9/10/19: Braves at Phillies

The march towards another divisional title continues. After picking up another win last night, the Braves are looking to keep things going in the right direction towards a second divisional title in a row. A win tonight would guarantee at least a split of this four-game series against the Phillies. Hopefully the road warriors can once again take care of business away from home.

Phillies Nation: The Braves have assembled an entire lineup of Phillies killers

Freddie Freeman inside-outed a single into left field that scored Ronald Acuna Jr. in the second inning of Monday night's Atlanta Braves victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Beyond symbolizing that the Braves simply have a better team than the Phillies in 2019, the RBI served as a reminder that the Braves have put together a lineup that mauls the Phillies specifically.

If it feels like Freeman drives in a run every game or two that he plays against the Phillies, it's because he does. Last night was Freeman's 159th career game against the Phillies, and the run he drove in was his 95th against the Phillies.

Talking Chop: Riley, Camargo, and Cervelli come back to lineup as Braves face Phillies

The lineups are out, so let's not waste anymore time. What will both teams look like for the second game of this four-game series?

Hello, Johan Camargo! The right field spot is currently fluid (at least until Nick Markakis gets back from injury) and we've seen some different faces in that spot. Camargo is one of those faces, as he'll be using his utility ability to roam right field for tonight's game. Austin Riley gets the start tonight in his usual left field spot.

Yahoo! Sports: The Braves are how many games better than the Phillies the last two seasons? Oh, brother

The Phillies are desperately trying to stay in the National League wild-card race and to do so they must rack up some quick wins against the Atlanta Braves.

Based on what happened Monday night, that could be a problem.

The Phillies and ace Aaron Nola were manhandled in a 7-2 loss to the Braves on Monday night.

    That was the bad news.

    Now, the really bad news:

Six of the Phillies' next eight games are against the Braves, who have won 21 of their last 26 games and are up to 90 wins as they roll to their second straight NL East title.

The Good Phight: So we're all in agreement then, unsustainable: Braves 7, Phillies 2

The multifaceted and many-opinioned baseball internet came together in a rare show of unity yesterday to agree on one singular point: The Braves' success in 2019 is entirely unsustainable. From individual fans to entire media outlets, they stepped forward in solidarity with this web site's conclusion: As fearsome and dominant as these Braves are, there's no way it will last.

Whether by the pivoting of good fortunes, the degradation of high level talent, the completion of the MLB schedule, or our solar system's sun morphing into a red giant and swallowing the planet on which the Braves have so utterly dominated the NL East this year, the Braves' run will end, and everyone of us who has ever donned a Phillies or Braves cap agreed yesterday that such a statement was unarguably accurate by repeating it en masse the entire afternoon.

Talking Chop: Braves News: Folty eludes Phillies bats

    BRAVES NEWS

The Braves got seven strong innings from Mike Foltynewicz en route to a 7-2 win over the Phillies on Monday. Josh Donaldson backed the effort with a three-run homer, Ronald Acuna hit a leadoff homer, and Freddie Freeman added three hits. The magic number now stands at 10 with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Gabe Burns writes that Atlanta may add a significant veteran piece in the coming days, and Nick Markakis nears his return from a broken wrist.

Braves outfielder Nick Markakis, who has been sidelined since July 27 with a fractured wrist, will take live batting practice Wednesday in Philadelphia and could return to team as soon as Friday.

The Good Phight: Unsustainable: Phillies vs. Braves series preview

Now that the Phillies have bid farewell to the Mets, they're on to face another division rival. The Braves have fared well in recent weeks, but there are plenty of signs that the good times in Atlanta are coming to an end.

    Atlanta Braves

Record: 89-55, First place in National League East

The Braves visited Philadelphia in late July and won two out of three. At first that sounds impressive. Then you see that they beat Jake Arrieta while he was suffering from bone spurs, and Zach Eflin when he was suffering from actually listening to the Phillies' pitching staff.

Split a series with the Reds? Check. Two out of three from the Mets? Check. And now, for the division-leading, highly dominant Braves. Is that... is that Bryce Harper, returned? And Maikel Franco playing third? The Phillies certainly have a lineup as they try to not lose a fourth Aaron Nola start in a row.
