Yankees being the Yankees is how I expect this one to go. I don't think they will come off the gas till the season is over, and they want to have the best record in baseball while some teams just happy to make the playoffs.

My Pick: New York -219 & Over 9.5

    New York Yankees
(80% consensus). The New York Yankees are in great shape as they attempt to secure their first American League East crown since 2012, but they still have plenty of work to do in order to secure home-field advantage in the postseason. The Yankees continue their quest to do just that on Tuesday, when they visit the Detroit Tigers for the opener of their three-game series... http://bit.ly/2J3bpLo

CBS: Yankees Slug 6 Homers, Lose As Bullpen Mop-Up Men Implode Against Lowly Tigers

DETROIT (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Jordy Mercer capped a comeback from a six-run deficit with a game-ending single off Chance Adams in the ninth inning, and the Detroit Tigers overcame six home runs by the Yankees to beat New York 12-11 on Tuesday night.

Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each homered twice, and Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnacion also went deep for the Yankees, whose 276 homers tied Minnesota for the major league lead.

New York, with a 95-51 record to Detroit's big league-worst 43-100, led 6-0 in the second inning. But the Tigers tied the score with six runs in the third, aided by an error by Torres at second base.

The Detroit News: "It's satisfying': Tigers outduel homer-happy Yankees 12-11, win on Mercer's walk-off single

Detroit -- Back on Aug. 31, the Tigers helped the Twins establish a new Major League Baseball single-season home run record. The Twins hit six home runs that day, making Comerica Park look like a bandbox, surpassing the mark of 267 homers set by the Yankees last season.

Incidentally, the Tigers won that game, 10-7.

Ten days later, again at Comerica Park and again at the expense of the Tigers pitching staff, the Yankees on Tuesday also hit six home runs -- retaking their home run record, at least temporarily, with 276. The Twins hit another one Tuesday, so they are tied with 276 each.

NY Post: Yankees blow huge lead in ugly loss to Tigers

DETROIT -- On a night when the Yankees hit six homers, they still didn't get enough offense to beat the dreadful Tigers.

Chance Adams allowed a game-winning single to Jordy Mercer with one out in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday, sending the Yankees to an ugly 12-11 loss at Comerica Park.

Grayson Greiner's one-out double sparked the rally and pinch-runner Willi Castro scored the winning run.

In their race for the best record in the American League, the Yankees blew an early 6-0 lead, as just about every pitcher Aaron Boone turned to struggled.

In fairness, there's a chance none of the relievers used by Boone that gave up runs will be on the postseason roster -- other than Adam Ottavino, who allowed an unearned run in the seventh.
