• Reds +102: I give them a slight Starting pitching and bullpen edge. But the Pirates offense is terrible. Over their last 20, PIT is 29th in runs and OPS and they've been ICE COLD lately, scoring just 10 runs over their last 7 games with a .178 AVG and just 9 extra-base hits. Yikes.

    My Pick: Cincinnati +102 50%

Im shocked that the Pirates are the favorites in this one with a pitcher with a 8+ ERA. Reds are the better team with the better line up with the better pitcher. Reds ML is a great value play here

The Reds are playing slightly better than they have and they carry a small edge going into tonight's game but not much. It feels like the Pirates have begun to shut it down at this stage maybe that's just me but I've got the Reds here.

(69% consensus). The Cincinnati Reds still have faint hopes of climbing back into the postseason chase, but they are just as close to the bottom of the National League Central as they are within striking distance of the second wild card. The schedule does not favor the Reds, who kick off an 11-game road trip with the first of three at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night... http://bit.ly/2J4p18P

Cincinnati.com: David Bell, Clint Hurdle don't expect more problems for Cincinnati Reds-Pittsburgh Pirates

MLB issued 8 suspensions after Tuesday's brawl between the Reds and Pirates. Manager David Bell was suspended 6 games. Bobby Nightengale, Cincinnati Enquirer

PITTSBURGH - There was at least one reminder of the last series the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates played against each other.

Amir Garrett was wearing a shirt during batting practice that had a depiction of the iconic photo of him during the benches-clearing brawl on July 30. Garrett was surrounded by five Pirates players and he was in the middle with his right fist cocked behind his ear.

Redleg Nation: Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates - August 23, 2019

The Cincinnati Reds (60-66) will begin an 11-game road trip tonight at 7:05 PM against the Pittsburgh Pirates (52-75). The Reds are just 5-8 against the Pirates this season. The Reds are 5-1-3 over their last 9 series.

The umpires will certainly be on high alert this weekend. Marty Brennaman said on air that both teams have already been warned. You would expect that nothing will happen, but it could get interesting the first time someone throws up and in.

              Starting Pitchers

Anthony DeSclafani is coming off a solid start against the Cardinals where he allowed just 1 run in 5.

Fansided: Cincinnati Reds: Preview and prediction for the upcoming duel with Pirates

The last series between the Cincinnati Reds (60-66) and Pittsburgh Pirates was one that will have fans talking for years to come. A bench-clearing brawl in the middle game of the three-game set resulted in 40 games worth of suspensions for six players and both managers. Major League Baseball has made it clear to both teams that a similar incident will not be tolerated.

As the fans of both teams know, this type of incident was a longtime coming. Both clubs have raised the ire of the other throughout the 2019 season. I would expect this weekend's contests to lack the theatrics that have dominated the series over the course of this year.
