well I hope you weren't like the rest of america and had the astros in a big parlay. Remember the other team makes millions of dollars as well and they are hitting a round ball with a round bat so anything can happen. With that said, I doubt they lose twice in a row but who knows, i'm not touching this

  • if you were going to make a killing in this series, it happened last night. Great Parlay play here tonight with Houston on the run line. Astros are 5-0 in their last five in game four of a series and 22-4 in Coles last 26 home starts. Houston is 43-16 in Coles last 59 starts and 7-2 in his last nine versus the AL Central. The Tigers are 6-23 in their last 29 in game four of a series and 2-10 in their last 12 Thursday games. Detroit is 1-5 in Zimmermans last six starts with four days rest and 2-5 in his last seven road starts. Parlay this one with the Nationals or Dodgers.

    My Pick: Houston -485

(65% consensus). Gerrit Cole returns to the mound for the first time since Aug. 7 when the Houston Astros conclude their three-game series against the visiting Detroit Tigers on Thursday. The Detroit News: Gerrit Cole quells Tigers, Astros snuff out late comeback attempt

    (Photo: Richard Carson, Associated Press)

Houston -- Whoever gets to grapple with these Houston Astros in the playoffs, good luck.

First you get Justin Verlander, who is on track to win his second Cy Young award. He never pitched out of the stretch in nine innings against the Tigers on Wednesday night. They managed two hits off him, both solo home runs, and struck out 11 times.

Then you get Gerrit Cole. Buckle up, because he's bringing upper-90s heat right out of the gate, mixing in a hard slider and, just for kicks, a knuckle-curve.

Detroit Free Press: MLB: Justin Verlander, Houston Astros barring Detroit Free Press violates CBA

The Houston Astros violated the MLB collective bargaining agreement on Wednesday when they blocked a Detroit Free Press reporter from interviewing pitcher Justin Verlander after his loss to the Tigers in Houston.

"Per our Club-Media Regulations, the reporter should have been allowed to enter the clubhouse postgame at the same time as the other members of the media," MLB vice president of communications Mike Teevan said in a statement Thursday.

Fansided: Detroit Tigers beat the odds against Verlander and the Astros

The Detroit Tigers played the third game of a four-game set against the Astros tonight, and it turned into a historic affair. Westgate LV had the Astros as a -550 favorite to win the game, which was the biggest odds of winning in 15 years in the MLB. Detroit ended up winning the game 2-1, marking this as a historic upset.

A big part of the reason the Tigers were so heavily predicted to lose was their former pitcher, Justin Verlander. Verlander has seemingly defied aging and continues to be one of the most dominant pitchers in the MLB at age 36.

The Detroit News: Tigers stun Verlander, Astros on Hicks' homer, Castro's throw

Houston -- This one goes way back.

When John Hicks was 10 years old, he would sit out at the baseball field at Goochland High School in Virginia and watch his older brother Daniel and Justin Verlander dominate teams.

And for two at-bats Wednesday, Verlander gave young Hicks the equivalent of a high school swirly. He got him to tap meekly back to the mound and then struck him out on three pitches.

But in the top of the ninth, in a 1-1 game, Hicks got his redemption. He got one of the two mistakes Verlander made on this night, a center-cut fastball at 94 mph, and sent it on a line over the wall in left field, giving the Tigers a most improbable 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros.
