There is no word on what sherzers pitch count expext to be in this one. He threw 65 pitches in his rehab start and I don't think i can get behind him at this point. Sure he's sherzer but this bullpen is horrible. I like the Nats offense against Brault but this price is too much for sherzer who may just pitch four to five innings. This game is a fade

Brault was Brilliant in his last start . Plus Scherzer hasnt had recent success against Pitsburgh or any kind of career success. Mad Max is 0-2 with a 6.28 ERA in four starts and five lifetime appearances in Pittsburgh, where he has not pitched since 2015. It is only one of two actively used ballparks where the righty has not won a game, with the other Coors Field. Scherzer shook off an early funk against Pittsburgh earlier this year, giving up three runs in the first three innings before tossing five shutout frames. He did not get a decision in Washingtons 4-3 home loss April 14. His manager said he will be on a pitch count already so you know he will not be going deep into this game. Given that and the fact that their Bullpen routinely gives up games like last night I like the Value of the Pirates at home here.

    My Pick: Pittsburgh +200

The Bucs are 8-29 since the All Star Break and cannot buy a run. WSH -220

Pittsburgh has been in free fall since the All-Star break going 8-29. My followers have made a killing off fading them and yeah, -220 isn't great value but you don't need to hit a HR on every bet placed - you can raise your units on this one though. The Bucs have been blanked twice in their last five games and held to one run in two others. The Nationals offense has been crushing the ball at a stratospheric level the last 11 games, averaging 8.6 runs while scoring seven or more runs on seven occasions. They just set some records for runs scored in a 4-game span. Scherzer does not need to be a stud in his return, he simply needs to pitch well, and that should be enough for the Nationals to close out this series with a win. It is rare to see Scherzer pitch...bad.

    My Pick: Washington -220 70%

if this is true then what about last night with the Astros losing at -425? shouldve been an easy "raise your units" play. Gotta think about value when betting PIT +200

In the gambling world- you can't win them all. Last night was an anomaly. Literally, history making. I'd gladly "raise my units" against you in a personal bet on this one, Cory. You bring up lifetime numbers for Scherzer in Pittsburgh. This lineup is completely different compared to the 2015 club. Combined .643 OPS in 143 lifetime plate appearances against Scherzer - a CY Young, proven leader coming back to help his team get into the playoffs. WSH -220

(73% consensus). The Washington Nationals' postseason hopes will receive an enormous boost when ace right-hander Max Scherzer is expected to be activated off the disabled list to start Thursday night's finale of a four-game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bucs Dugout: Pirates Drop Series Finale to Nationals 7-1

The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the series finale of the four game series against the Washington Nationals on Thursday night by a score of 7-1. After the win, the Nats take the series 3-1 and with an overall combined score of 32-6. The Pirates scored their lone run off of starter Max Scherzer, and it was actually the Washington bullpen that kep the Pirates offense quiet from the fifth inning on.

Bucs lefty starter Steven Brault got off to a rough start, as he allowed a leadoff double to Trea Turner who came around to score on a bunt single by Adam Eaton and an error by Josh Bell.

Federal Baseball: Washington Nationals' lineup for tonight's series finale with the Pittsburgh Pirates

Anthony Rendon drove in his 99th and 100th runs of the season with one hit last night, the first of two hits he finished the game with in PNC Park.

It was the second time he's reached the century mark in RBIs in his career.

Last time he did it, back in 2017, Rendon drive in his 100th in the Nationals' 162nd and his 147th game of that season, in 605 plate appearances.

Last night, Rendon picked up his 100th in his 111th game and his 450th PA.

"It's a testament to what he's done all year," Rendon's manager, Davey Martinez, said after the Nationals' 11-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates (against whom Rendon drove in No.

Fansided: Joe Musgrove Roughed Up As Pittsburgh Pirates Fall To The Nationals

After defeating the Washington Nationals by a score of 11-1 on Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates were blown out by the Nats on Wednesday night. With the loss, the team is now a miserable 8-29 since the All-Star Break.

This loss drops the team's overall record on the season to 52-74. Even though the team has collapsed to 22 games under .500, as well as being on pace for the worst second half in baseball history, the Pirates continue to hold no one accountable. But that's a discussion for another time.

Joe Musgrove started for the Pirates and cruised though his first 2 innings.

Federal Baseball: Max Scherzer returns to the Washington Nationals' rotation tonight vs Pittsburgh Pirates....

Washington Nationals' skipper Davey Martinez made it all-but official earlier this week, once Max Scherzer got through a second simulated outing and felt good coming out of the 64-pitch sim game against his own teammates.

Barring any setbacks, the Nats' 35-year-old, three-time Cy Young award-winning ace would start the series finale with the Pittsburgh Pirates in PNC Park.

"He felt good, talked to him in the weight room, everything went according to plan, so the plan is that he's ready for Thursday," Martinez told reporters.

As well as the Nationals have done with Scherzer starting just twice since the start of July (26-16 since July 1st), the return of the Nats' ace, who'll take the mound with a 10-outing unbeaten streak going, over which he's put up a 1.
