Brewers vs Cardinals UNDER 8.5 (-105): Wainwright has been great at home this season with a 2.19 ERA and just 2 of the 11 starts went OVER + the STL bullpen ranks 2nd in FIP this month. STL ranks 28th in OPS in August and 8 of their L9 home games have gone UNDER.— Joe Osborne (@JTFOz) August 21, 2019

Sometimes I think we can ignore the weather in Wrigley. I get that the wind is blowing in but guess what, it was blowing in yesterday as well and that didn't stop them from scoring over 20 runs. I like the momentum to carry over today and I think these teams will at least put up 8. It's not like either pitcher is in their prime and they are both 500 pitchers. It just takes one of them to have a bad game, scratch that, bad inning for this game to go over

    My Pick: Over 7.5

This is really a closer matchup than it may appear. I know that the Cubs have gotten away with two close games but still think the Giants have one steal in their bag and this is it with Samardzija and Hendricks on the mound. I'm going Giants here today.

Im taking the Giants here after what I saw last night with the cubs pitching staff. The Cubs needed a signature win to get by the Giants last night and I think the Giants are poised to give them fits again. Jeff Samardzija is hot right now and is 5-0 with a 2.66 ERA in his last seven starts. Samardzija has held all but one opponent under two runs in that stretch and has 41 strikeouts in 44 innings. I think the Notre Dame native gets it done here

    My Pick: San Francisco +163

Chicago Sun-Times: Kyle Hendricks shines as Cubs beat Giants 1-0 at Wrigley for fifth win in a row

Joe Maddon agreed it has been quite the slog. He likened the experience of this Cubs season to being underwater. Who ever said winning was supposed to be easy?

Great at home, awful on the road. In first place, then not, then back again -- barely. No one is confusing the 2019 Cubs with a runaway train like the one this city marveled at in 2016.

But after the Cubs beat the Giants 1-0 Thursday at Wrigley Field to complete a three-game sweep and run their winning streak to five games, it was undeniable that they were in as strong a state as they've been in for a while.

Bleed Cubbie Blue: Cubs 1, Giants 0: Kyle Hendricks puts another masterpiece on the board

    Because baseball, of course.

Wednesday night, the Cubs and Giants combined for seven home runs and 23 runs in a game where the lead changed four times.

So of course, Thursday afternoon featured zero home runs and a single run that scored after an error and a double play might have ended that inning, with the Cubs coming out on top 1-0, sweeping the three-game series and moving their record at Wrigley Field to an amazing 44-19 (.698).

Both Kyle Hendricks and former Cub Jeff Samardzija were dealing over the first three innings.

The Cub Reporter (TCR): Cubs vs. Giants: Hendricks vs. Samardzija (Game 127)

CHC (68-58): RHP Kyle Hendricks (8-9, 3.37 ERA)
SF (63-64): RHP Jeff Samardzija (9-9, 3.54 ERA)
    First pitch 1:20pmCDT

My heart doesn't believe it, but the Cubs today will try for their fifth win in a row and a sweep of the Giants. Can you believe that game yesterday counted as a win the same as, say, a solidly played 5-2 victory? Baseball is nonsense. Kyle Hendricks takes the mound and his performance should be key to this game, given that five relievers labored in last nights "victory." He last got a no decision against the Pirates on seven innings, one earned run, and only one strikeout.

Bleed Cubbie Blue: Cubs 12, Giants 11: Kris Bryant saves the day

It was one of those nights where you were glad your team had the last at-bat.

And then Kris Bryant made that unnecessary. His eighth-inning go-ahead homer and another Craig Kimbrel save gave the Cubs a wacky 12-11 win over the Giants Wednesday evening.

There was no wind to speak of when this game began, but home runs started flying out of Wrigley Field anyway in the top of the first inning. Evan Longoria hit a two-run shot off Yu Darvish to give the Giants the lead.

Obstructed View: Cubs 12, Giants 11

    OSS: Blow *ALL* the leads!

    Three up:

Kris Bryant had the last big hit of the day, a two run shit in the eighth that put the Cubs ahead for the last time. That homer alone was worth nearly half a win in WPA. KB also singled as a part of the Cubs rally in the sixth inning.
Nick Castellanos also had a huge day, going 4-5 with a home run and three RBI. His slash line with the Cubs going into this game was .365/.405/.743. Suffice to say this trade deadline pickup is working out okay so far.
