Charlie Morton has not been himself lately and that scares me. On the other hand, I don't see this Rays team getting swept by Mariners either. I'm going with Tampa in this one.

I would be weary of Charlie Morton here. He lost his last time out (although he got 0 run support) and looks to be hitting a wall as the season winds down. Seattle has won 4 straight and are worth a shot here at these odds

    My Pick: Seattle +255

  • The Mariners have no chance in this one with Charlie Morton on the mound who has a ERA of 2.77. The Mariners dont have a lot of good pitching options beyond their first couple of starters so sets up for an easy Tampa win this afternoon but at -265 I'm priced out, so will put something small on the UNDER 8.5. When Morton is pitching, games are usually played in the under. He has an ERA under 3, so look for him to hold down the injury-plagued Mariners lineup. Rays win a 5-2 type of game.

    My Pick: Under 8.5 60%

    Tampa Bay Rays
(74% consensus). The Tampa Bay Rays have had a difficult time with a pair of last-place teams on this homestand and will try to avoid a three-game sweep against the Seattle Mariners in the series finale Wednesday afternoon. The Rays needed walk-off hits to win two of three against major league-worst Detroit and have dropped the first two games versus the Mariners after coughing up a two-run lead in Tuesdays 7-4 setback... http://bit.ly/2J4p18P

Lookout Landing: Mariners honor their past selves, hint at the future, gift series finale to the Rays

Baseball Savant does a fun thing for game recaps these days. When a bit of hard contact is given up by a pitcher, a little flame emoji appears next to their line in the box score. A new flame appears for each instance of hot contact. It's hard to avoid hard hit balls entirely when you're playing against MLB hitters, and hard contact isn't the end-all be-all since it can be wasted if it's just hit hard into the ground, but it's usually a good sign when the flames are absent and a troublesome one when they start to look like a firewall.

DRaysBay: Rays 7, Mariners 6: Walk-off wild pitch!

After a disappointing first two games to start the series, the Rays looked to even the home-stand record at 3-3 and not get swept by the Mariners.

Charlie Morton took the mound for the Rays, hoping to help put the team back in the win column. The Mariners used opener Cory Gearrin before bulk guy Wade LeBlanc took over in the second inning.

Tommy Pham started this game off with a leadoff walk, stealing both second and third base after getting on. Travis d'Arnaud drove Pham home with a sacrifice fly to our old friend Mallex Smith in right field, giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.

U.S.S. Mariner: Game 128, Mariners at Rays

Cory Gearrin/Wade LeBlanc vs. Charlie Morton, 10:10am

If the season's worn you down and you checked out in May, OR if you've been scrutinizing every box score throughout the system for signs of a coming juggernaut, today's a game you'll probably want to see. The suddenly surging M's start CF Jake Fraley, the ex-Rays farmhand who'll make his MLB debut. There's no doubt that the progress of Kelenic/Rodriguez has been exciting, but to make a competitive club, the M's need contributors besides the ones everyone saw coming. They need a bunch of Mitch Hanigers, essentially, and Fraley seems pretty similar to our injured RF.

TBO Rays: Rays vs. Mariners lineups for Wednesday, seeking to avoid a sweep

ST. PETERSBURG -- Having swept the Mariners last weekend in Seattle, the Rays are on the other side today, taking the field for today's matinee trying to avoid being swept.

They feel they have the right man on the mound in Charlie Morton, who comes in leading the AL with a 2.77 ERA.

The Rays made one roster move already, sending down lefty Hoby Milner after he worked in relief on Tuesday and calling up (and adding to the 40-man roster) Aaron Slegers, the 6-10 righty who has previous big-league time with the Twins.

TBO Rays: Rays come up short again against last-place Mariners

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays are running out of options.

And at this rate they may run out of time to recover.

The accumulation of injuries and inconsistencies continues to add up and cost them.

Because starters Yonny Chirinos, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell are sidelined into September, and Brendan McKay pitched his way back to the minors, Jalen Beeks is still being used in a key role to work bulk innings as a starter or behind an opener. And because their bullpen is so heavily taxed, Beeks was still on the mound in the pivotal sixth inning Tuesday.
