Camden Chat: Friday night Orioles game thread: vs. Red Sox, 7:10

    MLB

So it's that time in the season--the Orioles, mathematically assured of another losing season, now get to play the spoiler. I wish we were playing competitive baseball, but we may as well get our kicks where we can.

This is the fourteenth time the Orioles and the Red Sox have played this season. Baltimore is 5-8 against them, which is certainly better than 2-15 against that other team.

If you checked out Drew's series preview, you'll know that tonight's game features two pitchers who haven't been exactly living up to expectations (although to be fair, the expectations for Aaron Brooks were not exactly astronomic).

Fansided: Red Sox have only AL hitters to produce these impressive stats

Part of the joy of being a baseball writer is the opportunity to play with statistics. Numbers can be manipulated to enhance an argument, crafted to fit a narrative. In some cases, these numbers can even lie to us. Then there are times when a particular stat stands out enough to leave us in awe. A trio of Boston Red Sox hitters have combined to produce a statistical achievement that should catch your eye.

There are only three American League hitters who enter the day batting .300+ with a .900+ OPS and 25+ home runs. All three of them play for the Red Sox.

Fansided: Red Sox need a dominating sweep against Baltimore Orioles

Simply winning the series isn't good enough. Not when you're at home against a team as bad as the Baltimore Orioles. The Boston Red Sox need a sweep.

Boston is coming off an encouraging series in which they took two out of three in Cleveland. Winning a road series against a red-hot Indians club sends a message that this team can compete against playoff-caliber opponents. Taking two out of three at Fenway against the worst team in baseball would be a disappointment. The Red Sox need to go three-for-three.

Baltimore's .322 winning percentage ranks next to last in the majors and they are dead last with a -243 run differential.

Camden Chat: Orioles-Red Sox series preview: O's head north to face a rival in a rut

    MLB

They're done with the team they couldn't beat this year. Now the Orioles will face the team they couldn't beat last year.

Done getting their heads caved in by the Yankees for the rest of 2019 after their 17th loss in 19 matchups, the O's will head to Fenway Park to face the Red Sox, who beat them 16 times in 19 tries last year en route to the World Series title.

That Red Sox team was a machine, but this Red Sox team...well...isn't. Flying high on July 27 at 59-47 after a third straight win over their archrivals from The Bronx, Boston dropped the fourth game to New York, and has gone into dive mode ever since.
