Morton hasn't been great past few games so I expect him to bounce back in this one. It's weird how Rays have 71 wins but they aren't THAT great at home. In any case, Tigers are the worst team in baseball and the only option here is Rays on the run line -1.5.

  • TBO Rays: Rays go punchless at home again, get shut out by lowly Tigers 2-0

    MLB

ST. PETERSBURG -- For the Rays, it was a wasted opportunity and another confounding example of the team's growing homefield disadvantage.

They were facing the Tigers, owners of baseball's worst record and having won just eight times since the All-Star break.

Right-hander Charlie Morton, the Rays' best pitcher, performed brilliantly (again).

Friday night's final at Tropicana Field: Tigers 2, Rays 0.

Afterward, Morton was kicking himself over a fourth-inning cross-up with Travis d'Arnaud -- the catcher called for a curveball, but Morton threw a fastball -- that produced a passed ball and allowed the go-ahead run to score.

The Detroit News: 'Big performances': Trio of Tigers pitchers combine to blank Rays 2-0

    MLB

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Rays came home but didn't bring their bats.

Daniel Norris, Drew VerHagen and Joe Jimenez combined on a five-hitter to outpitch Charlie Morton, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Rays 2-0 on Friday night.

"We didn't hit," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "You're not going to win if you don't score and we didn't score."

Norris went the first three innings, VerHagen pitched five and Jimenez earned his third save by striking out Eric Sogard with two men on base to end the game.

Fansided: The Detroit Tigers head south to take on the Tampa Bay Rays

The Detroit Tigers are heading south to kick off a 10-game road trip with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are currently fighting to keep a Wild Card spot while the Tigers have an opportunity to play spoiler and get some experience against a top tier team.

Daniel Norris will take the mound for the first game of the series tonight at 7:10 p.m. EST for Detroit. The young lefty has been inconsistent this season, with a 3-10 record and a 4.94 ERA. He has had some decent starts lately though and will look to continue this trend.

Detroit Free Press: Tigers PA announcer staring down cancer with unshakable faith: 'I will be here Opening Day'

    MLB

Jay Allen is the new voice of Comerica Park. We checked in with him as he prepared for Tigers Opening Day on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Mandi Wright, Detroit Free Press

What do you say to a person who has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer?

On Wednesday afternoon, after Jay Allen told the remaining fans filing out of Comerica Park to travel safe and come back soon, I told him I was sorry for waiting until now to introduce myself.

Mostly, I was sorry he has to deal with this.

Allen, a couple weeks shy of his 60th birthday and just five months into a dream job as the Tigers' public address announcer at Comerica Park, has Stage 4 bile duct cancer.
