THis seems like a great under spot to me. Paddack has been on fire this year and while he's on a pitch count (basically has been all year) he can pitch through 6 innings. I really like Velasquez for DFS reason because this padre team strikes out a ton and has a lot of right handed batters which is Vince's specialty striking out righties. Both these teams have been very uninspiring offensively and I just don't think these guys are getting to double digit runs tonight.

    My Pick: Under 9

Philly looks like they want to make another push to make the playoffs but with how tight that division is I still can't get a line on who's going to do what. However I do think Philly carries the energy and momentum into tonight from last nights big win and handle this 1st game of this series.

  • Philly is coming off of a huge win on a walk off Granny from Harper and I think they will ride that high in this one. The Padres just lost one of the key pieces and the guy at the top of their order in Tatis Jr. The Phillies are 7-3 in Velasquezs last 10 home starts and 13-5 in their last 18 home games vs. the Padres. Phillies ML here is the play

    My Pick: Philadelphia -125 70%

    Philadelphia Phillies
(68% consensus). The feel-good vibes surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies' offense on Wednesday were nowhere to be found through the first eight innings the following night before a six-run ninth sent the Citizens Bank Park faithful into a frenzy. The Phillies aim to ride the momentum of Bryce Harper's walk-off grand slam into Friday's opener of a three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres... http://bit.ly/2GfvHU5

    SignOnSanDiego.com: Phillies beat Paddack, Padres

    PHILADELPHIA --

Chris Paddack nearly started his night with an immaculate inning.

By the time his Friday was finished too early, he had allowed five runs and a career-high nine hits and put the Padres in a hole from which they could not emerge.

The Phillies scored in four of the five innings in which Paddack pitched and added on after he departed en route to an 8-4 victory, as the Padres other than Josh Naylor and Francisco Mejia were largely punchless in the first game of the rest of their season without Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Good Phight: Hope you're enjoying the weather, Manny: Phillies vs. Padres preview

    MLB

Many fans wanted to see Manny Machado in a Phillies uniform. That didn't happen, but they will get to see him visit town in a Padres uniform this weekend. However, barring a huge finish to the season, they won't be seeing him in the playoffs.

    San Diego Padres

Record: 56-64, 4th place in National League West

The Phillies visited Petco Park in early June and took two out of three. The Padres won their lone game by taking advantage of a bad start by Aaron Nola. Since those aren't all that common, it doesn't bode well for their chances this weekend.

The Good Phight: Game Thread 8/16: Padres at Phillies

    MLB

The Phillies swept the Cubs last night, on the grand slam that the team has needed for probably about eight weeks. It was the kind of moment that this season has been criminally short on, and sure, it may lead to more cool things. But for now, let us bask in the glory of a fully worked-up Bryce Harper who, if fully weaponized, could drag the Phillies into the postseason by his teeth. And if not, hey, they can't take that grand slam away.

Tonight we get a good look at the Padres, a team on which Fernando Tatis, Jr.

SignOnSanDiego.com: Jankowski to be recalled, Padres to place Kinsler on IL with neck injury

    PHILADELPHIA --

Fernando Tatis Jr. is not the only Padres infielder going on the injured list, and Ty France isn't the only player being promoted from Triple-A.

Ian Kinsler will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a disc herniation.

Travis Jankowski and France will be recalled and join the Padres here for the start of a six-game road trip.

The team will announce the moves before Friday's game against the Phillies.

Kinsler, who has been almost exclusively used as a pinch-hitter the past month, woke up with pain in his neck on Wednesday.

Phillies Nation: Machado, Padres look to slow down Harper and the Phillies

    MLB

Last night's bottom of the ninth grand slam walk-off home run from Bryce Harper was nothing short of magical. It was one of those Philadelphia sports moments where you can easily recall where you were when it happened. Some disgruntled (or tired) Phillies fans may have already been asleep, but those who kept on watching, whether it be from inside the ballpark or at home, will have the memory of that home run etched in their memory for a long time.

Thursday's victory could indicate the start of a late season run Gabe Kapler and the Phillies have continued to insist is still within them.

Fansided: San Diego Padres look for redemption at Phillies: August 16 preview

Friday sees the San Diego Padres coming to Philadelphia for a new series with the Phillies, and the team will be hoping that it turns out nothing like the last one.

When these teams met two months ago at PETCO Park, the Padres were a disaster, managing to win just one round of the three-game series. They even managed to blow a four-run lead during one of those losses.

The Phillies are coming off a win over the Chicago Cubs, while the Padres are looking to get their second win in a row after taking the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays.
