This line is moving and i highly recomend you get on it now. Degrom has been pitching great and this mets lineup is finally starting to gel. I bet if I were to ask you who leads the league in batting average for the NL you would never guess that it belongs to Jeff McNeil. Not to mention how great the Peter Alonso is looking and you can't sleep on the other guys in this lineup. Vince Velasquez has never been the same pitcher since he suffered that injury a few seasons ago and while this philies LU is a lethal one, I think Degrom will be able to shut them down. I just love the mets in this spot and will be hitting them really hard myself.

    My Pick: New York -182

  • The Mets are starting to turn it around after a cold streak, winning two out of their last three games with a win against both the first-place Braves and Yankees. Mets starting deGrom here and he has been nails of late, sporting a stifling 2.70 ERA in his last six starts, and he shut down the Braves, Cubs, and Rockies in that span.
I've got little confidence in Vince Velasquez who has been the Phillies most unreliable starter this season and he holds a poor 5.50 ERA on the road this season. I don't normally play the RL but I like the METS -1.5 (+105) in this matchup.

I will look for deGrom to have a classic deGrom start and limit the opposition to 1 or 2 runs over 6 or 7 innings. That recipe should yield a Mets victory and also a -1.5 RL. Mets starter Jacob deGrom is locked in on the mound, sporting a stifling 2.70 ERA in his last six starts, and he shut down the Braves, Cubs, and Rockies in that span. Philly continues to struggle on the road and it doesnt get any easier in this one. Plus we note that Vince Velasquez has been the Phillies most unreliable starter this season. The right-hander just allowed four runs in 4.1 innings against the Marlins in his previous effort, and he holds a poor 5.50 ERA on the road this season. More key facts arethe Phillies are 0-5 in Velasquez last 5 starts, 1-5 in Velasquez last 6 starts against the Mets, and to top it off they are 1-6 in their last 7 road games against a right-handed starter. if the ML is to steep im playing the Mets -1.5

    My Pick: New York -185

    New York Mets
(62% consensus). The Philadelphia Phillies answered a season-high seven-game losing streak before briefly getting healthy at the expense of the New York Mets, against whom they recorded a four-game sweep on June 24-27 after overcoming multi-run deficits in each contest. The visiting Phillies have since lost four of six heading into Friday's opener of a three-game series against Jacob deGrom and the Mets... http://bit.ly/2GgBwAC

The Good Phight: Thank you, Edwin Diaz: Phillies 7, Mets 2

    MLB

Heading into the game, a lot of Phillies' fans were pessimistic about the team's chances on Friday night. The Mets had Jacob deGrom on the mound, and he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the past few years. The Phillies were countering with Vince Velasquez, who has definitively not been one of the best pitchers in baseball.

The pessimists forgot one important thing: The Mets' bullpen is hot garbage. With the game tied at two entering the ninth inning, the Mets called upon closer Edwin Diaz to keep things close.

CBS: Phillies Score 5 In 9th, Another Bullpen Meltdown Dooms Mets

    MLB

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- On a night where New York celebrated the iconic television sitcom "Seinfeld," comedian Jerry Seinfeld was probably asking himself "what's the deal with the Mets bullpen?"

Jay Bruce hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning off closer Edwin Diaz in the latest meltdown for the Mets' relief corps. Manager Mickey Callaway lost an early replay challenge that might have cost him late and the Philadelphia Phillies beat New York 7-2 Friday night.

Nine days after blowing a save in Philadelphia, Diaz (1-6) allowed J.T. Realmuto's double and Bruce's RBI single to start the ninth, which snapped a 2-all tie.

CBS Philly: Phillies Use 5-Run 9th Inning To Beat Mets 7-2

    MLB

NEW YORK (AP) -- Jay Bruce hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning off closer Edwin Diaz, Mets manager Mickey Callaway lost an early replay challenge that might have cost him late and the Philadelphia Phillies beat New York 7-2 Friday night.

Nine days after blowing a save in Philadelphia, Diaz (1-6) allowed J.T. Realmuto's double and Bruce's RBI single to start the ninth, which snapped a 2-all tie. The Phillies poured it on after that, batting around and scoring five runs against Diaz, Jeurys Familia and Luis Avilan. Jean Segura drove in two with a double, and Bryce Harper scored him with a two-base hit to cap a rocky day that started with three strikeouts against Mets ace Jacob deGrom.

NY Post: Edwin Diaz's Phillies nightmare continues as Mets bullpen implodes

    MLB

In another time, the sound resonating through Citi Field in the ninth inning Friday night would have been "Br-uuuuce."

But these were boos raining on Edwin Diaz after Jay Bruce, of all people, had knocked in the go-ahead run, continuing the Mets closer's personal hell against the Phillies.

Yada, yada, yada. Diaz would record just one out in an inning in which five runs scored, sinking the Mets in a 7-2 loss on Seinfeld Night.

The Mets matched a season's low-point by falling 10 games below .500, wasting a strong start from Jacob deGrom on a night the offense couldn't generate much against Vince Velasquez and the Phillies bullpen.

Phillies Nation: Phillies series opposition preview: New York Mets

    MLB

It was just 10 days ago that the Philadelphia Phillies (45-42) season was on life support. Seven straight defeats and losses in nine of their previous 10 games had dropped the club to just a game over the .500 mark.

Turned out the temporary cure at that time was arriving at Citizens Bank Park in the form of the New York Mets, a club perhaps struggling even more than the Phillies.

Now here we are, a week and a half later, and the Phillies season appears to once again have relapsed. Since that visit to South Philly by the Mets, the Phillies have dropped two of three games to both the last-place Miami Marlins and first-place Atlanta Braves.

The Good Phight: Finish on a high note: Phillies vs. Mets series preview

    MLB

It seems like the season just started, but we're almost at the baseball season's unofficial halfway point known as the All-Star break. To end the first half, the Phillies will visit Citi Field to play three games against the New York Mets. Considering how the last series these teams played went, that seems like a good way to end things.

    New York Mets

Record: 39-48, Fourth place in National League East

Four games, four comeback victories by the Phillies, one epic on-air meltdown by Mike Fransesa.

The Mets looked like they were in a death spiral, but since their series against the Phillies ended, they went 2-3 against two first place teams, which is better than most people expected.

Amazin' Avenue: Mets finish off first half of the season with three against the Phillies

    MLB

The New York Mets (39-48) prepare to close the book on the first half of the 2019 season as they welcome the scuffling Philadelphia Phillies (45-42) to Citi Field for three games. The Phillies recently swept the Mets in a four-game series that saw New York blow late leads in every individual contest. In total, the Mets have dropped seven of ten to the Phillies this season, although they did take two out of three at Citi Field in April.

After splitting the Bronx round of the Subway Series in a June doubleheader, the Mets again settled for a split with their cross-town rival New York Yankees in Queens on Tuesday and Wednesday.
