Verlander has the best OPP BA AVG in the league. A couple of great bullpens since the start of May believe it or not, Reds have 3rd lowest ERA since May 1. Reds have the best Under record in the MLB! Astros are 6th believe it or not in Under Records. DeSclafani is capable of matching Verlander early and I expect a lot of strikeouts in this one if you are looking for a prop bet - I'd look at Verlander in that category, of course.

    My Pick: Under 8.5 80%

This one is pretty straigh foward, you have the leading canidate for the Cy Young going up against a mediocre pitcher who has never really lived up to the hype since he's been drafted. DeSclafani gets rocked by lefties and his splits are through the roof. He gives up a weight on base average (wOBA) of .411 and an iso of .292 to left handed batters. Now the Atros aren't loaded with great lefties outside of Brantly, but they definately got the scouting report because they have 4 in the projected lineup which is more than they typically roll out. On the otherside, Verlander is a fine wine that just keeps getting better. The dude is just ageless and has shown no regression since his MVP year and is even money right now to win the Cy young. Take the astros and I don't mind the run line because I love that approach with away teams because you always get that 9th inning at bat

    My Pick: Houston -175 50%

  • I like Verlander and the Astros RL here. I think they have no problem putting up runs off of DeSclafani in this one. I also dont see the slumping Reds hitters getting to Verlander. The Astros ace is almost a lock to go seven innings and the Pen can shut down any lineup. I like a 7-3 kind of game

    My Pick: Houston -162 60%

Redleg Nation: Reds Recap: Castillo escapes jams repeatedly in win over Astros

Well, well, well, how the turntables. The Cincinnati Reds hung on after a scary final three innings to start a winning streak. Yes, two wins in a row is a winning streak and that's where the Redlegs are.

    The Offense

Neither team was able to get much going early on in the game. But in the 5th inning Curt Casali singled to lead off the inning and Kyle Farmer followed with a walk. Luis Castillo laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd to bring up Nick Senzel with no outs. After getting ahead 1-0, Senzel came through with a 2-run single to put the Reds in front.

Cincinnati.com: Luis Castillo, Cincinnati Reds bullpen hold off Houston Astros to win series opener

After Reds closer Raisel Iglesias stranded two runners in scoring position in the eighth inning Monday, fellow reliever Amir Garrett stood up from his spot on the dugout bench and slammed his towel to the ground.

Garrett, who was responsible for the runner at third base, clapped as he walked over the dugout stairs and offered a high-five to Iglesias. Iglesias pitched out of a jam in the eighth inning and Michael Lorenzen pitched the final two outs to seal a 3-2 victory over the Houston Astros with a scoreless ninth inning at Great American Ball Park.

Lorenzen struck out the final batter, Yordan Alvarez, and let out a scream as he stared toward center field.
