The +172 plus money is tempting, but the issue with the Angels here is that Morton has been stellar on the year, and is coming off of back-to-back seven inning shutout performances heading into this start. Tampa Bay should be able to get the win here today, but at these odds the value bet is probably on the UNDER 8.5 in what should be a defensive game today.

  • TBO Rays: Rays fall behind early in 5-3 loss to Angels

Charlie Morton suffers his first loss of the season as the disappointing homestand trudges on.

Rays pitcher Charlie Morton (50) lost Saturday for the first time since last August. MONICA HERNDON | Times

ST. PETERSBURG -- It has been a bad week for the Rays.

On Saturday they again fell behind early, and again lost to the Angels after a reprieve comeback win on Friday. They again lost at home, something that didn't happen much last season, when they went 51-30 as part of their 90-win breakout.

  • DRaysBay: Rays 3, Angels 5: Dog days of June

On bark at the park day, the Rays refused to roll over and play dead. They battled back from an four run deficit, before coming up on the losing side of a 5-3 dogfight. It was Charlie Morton's first loss in four dog years.

With the club sporting Devil Ray throwbacks, Morton was bedeviled by Angels not named Trout and Ohtani. The big two were 0 for 6 with 3 strikeouts against Morton. The rest of the lineup were like yippy little Yorkshire terriers, pestering the Rays righty throughout his six innings of work, scoring four times on five hits.

  • TBO Rays: Rays vs. Angels lineups, Morton on the mound

Charlie Morton takes the hill for the Rays in their Saturday matinee against the Angels. The right-handed pitcher owns a 2.10 ERA and an undefeated 8-0 record through 14 starts this season.

In his last outing, Morton allowed only two hits over seven innings of work.

"We're going to let (Morton) go deep, especially the way he's throwing the ball," said Rays manager Kevin Cash. "I don't think we could ask much more of what Charlie Morton has provided to date, and hopefully that continues today."

Here is how the Rays line up:

    LF Tommy Pham

    CF Kevin Kiermaier

    C Travis d'Arnaud

Here is how the Angels line up:
