I'm going with the Mets at home tonight. Both teams are unbalanced right now and that makes them very unpredictable, however the Mets are dare to say good at home.

My Pick: New York -121 60%

I like the Mets here at home as the Cards are starting to break down in mid June. The Cards are trying to do a patch job on their rotation as Wainwright went down. New York has played significantly better at home of late, winning 13 of their previous 16 entering Thursdays opener. Matz turned in a solid outing against the Rockies in his last outing and the Cardinals have sputtered offensively on the road. Look for the Mets to take advantage of the Cards pitching and come out on top in this contest.

  • This should be a pretty interesting matchup on the mound, and Ive got enough faith in Ponce de Leon to take the Cards as the road dogs.

(66% consensus). The New York Mets were unsuccessful in their bid to hold off Mother Nature as well as the St. Louis Cardinals in the series opener, as they saw a two-run lead washed away as rain poured down on Citi Field. With the contest tied at 4, the Mets will begin the bottom of the ninth inning of the suspended game on Friday (6:10 p.m. ET) before playing the scheduled tilt shortly after its completion... http://bit.ly/2GhFnNX

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Cardinals make quick work of Mets for openers, then power way to another victory

    MLB

With a leftover game to finish from Thursday's rain delay and Friday's regularly schedule game set to follow at Citi Field, the Cardinals made short work of one and late work of the other to complete a sweep of the New York Mets. Paul DeJong had the winning RBI to complete a 5-4 victory in the 10th inning of the suspended game, and DeJong homered in the eighth to tie Friday's game and power the Cardinals toward a 9-5 win.

"When we've played well, we've added on," Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said. "When we've played well, we've gotten into people's bullpens and done damage.

CBS: Familia Demolished By Cardinals, Mets Bullpen Gives Away Another Game

    MLB

NEW YORK (AP) -- Paul DeJong and the Cardinals looked like the ballclub St. Louis fans expect Friday night.

"When we play well," manager Mike Shildt said, "we've gotten into people's bullpens and done damage."

Not that this odd double feature shocked Mets fans, either. They've seen this horror show before.

Dexter Fowler hit a go-ahead, three-run homer moments after DeJong's tying shot in the eighth inning, and the Cardinals rallied to beat the Mets 9-5 and sweep an unusual pair of games. Hours earlier, DeJong helped the Cardinals complete a comeback that started the night before, grounding an RBI single against Edwin Diaz in the 10th inning of a 5-4 win.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: DeJong delivers in 30 minutes or less as Cardinals upend Mets, 5-4, in suspended game

    MLB

NEW YORK -- The prediction in the clubhouse as the Cardinals took the field for a suspended game, starting with the bottom of the ninth inning, was that they could win the game "in 20 minutes."

Paul DeJong skipped an RBI single to left field to score Yairo Munoz and send the Cardinals to a 5-4 victory in the 10th inning of a game that had to be resumed from Thursday night. Rain had made the field inoperable during the ninth inning Thursday, and so the Cardinals' two-run rally in the top of the ninth only served to prolong the game -- all the way till Friday.

Amazin' Avenue: Final Score: Cardinals 9, Mets 5--Sounds Familia

    MLB

The Mets possessed two leads in this game, but neither of them lasted particularly long. Steven Matz was handed a 1-0 lead after a Todd Frazier RBI single plated the game's first run in the bottom of the first. However, a double, a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly tied the game for the Cardinals in the third.

Despite Daniel Ponce de Leon's control issues--he walked four batters in his four innings of work--the Mets were unable cash in any further against him. The game remained knotted at one until the fifth when Matz surrendered a one-out walk to Dexter Fowler.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: DeJong delivers quickly as Cardinals upend Mets 5-4 in suspended game

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: After Mets argue to play through the rain, Cardinals rally to tie before game is suspended

    MLB

By the time hometown kid Harrison Bader slipped and skidded on a sloppy track between second and third, his double had tied the game, 4-4, and punctured the Mets' once water-tight closer Edwin Diaz. Unable to make a compelling argument to keep the game going in worsening conditions - on the field and over it - officials suspended the game. Play will resume Friday at 5:10 p.m. St. Louis time with Carlos Martinez on the mound for the bottom of the ninth. Friday's scheduled game will follow the conclusion, whenever that is.

The Cardinals' rally in the ninth muddied what would have been a win for Jacob deGrom, the reigning Cy Young Award winner, but it also kept the Cardinals from sloshing back beneath .

Amazin' Avenue: Mets and Cardinals game suspended, to be resumed tomorrow night

    MLB

The drops from the sky were only the second most deflating thing to rain on the Mets' parade as they enter Friday night locked up in a 4-4 tie with the St. Louis Cardinals. Entering the ninth with a two-run lead, a ton of water and a bit of bad luck came together to bring two redbird runs home just before the game was officially suspended.

Before the rain and the tears of heartbroken fans drenched the stadium, this game was actually a pretty solid start for Jacob deGrom. Working off of a few deGrom-level starts in a row, he did what was expected of him over seven solid innings of work.
