I wish I could convince myself to give Detroit a shot at home against Plutko, who is still trying to get his feet underneath him after his first start in a few weeks and has just three starts this season, but the problem is that Carpenter has been shaky this season, giving up at least six earned in three of his six starts this season. Detroit's 29th ranked offense simply makes it hard to justify taking the plus money in this spot and -150 makes it tough to play Cleveland in this spot. Maybe something on the over 9.5 if you've got to play this one today.

Let's Go Tribe: Jake Bauers hits for the cycle as Cleveland stomps Detroit in series opener

I generally enjoy my job. Truly, I do. Even when I have to go in early or stay late occasionally, it's a good gig. But dammit if tonight wasn't the worst night to have to stay late. You all saw, of course. But I missed the majority of one of the best offensive eruptions from the Cleveland Indians this season. So allow me a moment to get caught up...

      ...

      ...

      Wait, Jake Bauers did what?!

Yup, that's right. On the same day that Terry Francona said this...

Terry Francona today on Jake Bauers and the consideration of a trip to AAA: "We just feel like he's got the tools to do it.

Bless You Boys: Tigers vs. Indians Preview: Struggling offense, meet struggling offense

I think we figured it out.

For three games, lefthander Ryan Carpenter, who has endured a rather awful start to his MLB career, was a useful starter for the Detroit Tigers. "Useful" may even be under-selling it; Carpenter put up a 2.65 ERA with 11 strikeouts to just two walks in 17 innings across three games. The Tigers won two of them, and Carpenter's ERA was literally cut in half, moving from 13.00 to 6.23.

Prior to those three games, we wrote previews that were... not the nicest, let's say.

On May 25 , we said "Carpenter hasn't even offered that sort of giddy, 'this might be crazy enough to work' optimism yet.

Fansided: Detroit Tigers: Tigers Return Home to Battle Division Foe Indians

The Detroit Tigers last four series have all ended with the same result, one win and two losses. Their most recent loss was Thursday night when they fell 7-3 against the Royals putting their season record at a dismal 25-40. Cleveland's 34-33 record ranks far superior when being compared to Detroit's. However, the Indians still find themselves 11 games backs from leading the division.

There is some good news for the Indians, however. Cleveland is currently only 1.5 games back in the American League Wild Card race. At the moment, their post-season hopes are still very much alive, while Detroit Tigers fans have had to face the music yet again.
