It's a wash play from the standpoint of offenses against RHP's but I like Cole a lot more than Porcello. The scary bats (Brantley, Bregman and Springer) are a combined 18-57 with 6 walks and 3 HR's.60%

Boston +122 as a home dog is tempting as the Red Sox have won each of Porcellos last five starts. Cole hasn't been the model of consistency lately and Boston is a step up from Detroit and Texas. All things considered, I think the vale bet is Boston in this spot.80%

Rick Porcello can be a magician at times. But I think he brings out his disappearing act in this start. The Astros bats are as hot as ever and I think they come into Fenway and lay the wood. Porcello has an ERA above 5 and is facing one of the most talented pitchers in the league in Cole. I do think the Red Sox will score some runs off of him, I don't think it will be enough to match what the astros will put up. Take the Astros here.80%

Boston.com: Astros top Red Sox for 9th straight win
BOSTON (AP) -- George Springer hit his American League-leading 17th home run and the Houston Astros continued their torrid month of May with their ninth straight victory, 3-1 over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
Springer's two-run shot in the eighth off Rick Porcello put the Astros up 2-1 and Houston held on. The Astros improved to 12-3 this month and matched the 2017 World Series championship team for the best start in franchise history at 30-15.
Will Harris (1-0) got the win with one scoreless inning of relief. Roberto Osuna picked up his 11th save, getting Mookie Betts to fly out to right with two runners on to end it.
The Crawfish Boxes: Game 45 Thread: May 17th. 2019, 6:10 CDT. Astros vs. Red Sox
We all know what happened the last time the Astros played the Red Sox. In 2017 the Astros came out of the ALCS tasting the thrill of victory. In 2018 it was the bitter agony of defeat they experienced.
The Red Sox had the best record of any team in baseball for most of last year, but the dread World Series hangover virus seems to have stricken them, and now they are barely over .500, and in third place in the AL East. They are hot right now though, winning eight if their last ten games.
But not as hot as the Astros, who are on an eight game winning streak, have won nine of their last ten games, and have the best record in baseball.
Over the Monster: Game 47 Gamethread: Red Sox vs. Astros
The Red Sox are playing their best baseball of the season right now, but they are going to be tested coming up like they haven't been so far this year. They have a tough schedule looking ahead that is also combined with a stretch of 33 games in 33 days. That stretch starts with a series against the MLB-best Astros, and that series starts tonight. Boston will send Rick Porcello to the mound to start this 2018 ALCS rematch as Houston counters with Gerrit Cole. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET, and this will be your space to discuss the action.

Boston.com: Red Sox-Astros is baseball's best rivalry of the moment
Every great rivalry begins like this. And this, at the moment, is the best baseball has to offer.
In 2017, Houston beats Boston in a four-game Division Series on its way to a championship. The Red Sox respond by hiring Houston's bench coach as their new manager. In 2018, that manager's team wins a five-game AL Championship Series on its way to a championship. (Doing so with J.D. Martinez, whom Houston cast off after three middling seasons.)
Houston had 204 wins in 2017-18. Boston had 201. They've essentially split their last 23 games (Houston, 12-11), including their nine postseason ones (Boston, 5-4).
