UCLA has only played two quality teams: North Carolina and Michigan State and they lost by 20 points to both. Notre Dame just played Oklahoma to a 5 point game and they are on par with UCLA. Take the 5 points and sprinkle the money line. ;)

LA Times: A college basketball rivalry will be renewed when UCLA takes on Notre Dame

UCLA versus Notre Dame, a rivalry that used to be as savory as holiday ham, will be renewed. The teams were part of each other's schedules from 1966 to 1995, playing twice a season over one 13-year stretch.

Then along came the Grinch who stole the series, otherwise known as the Big East Conference. Notre Dame's move away from being an independent, along with the desire of both schools to schedule other high-profile opponents, led to the demise of the rivalry.

When the teams meet Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion, it will be for only the fifth time since 1995.

    Digger is a Wimp!

Well, that cheer is not quite back in Westwood, but some will be longing for it. Legendary Notre Dame basketball coach Digger Phelps built his career on wins over UCLA, particularly one that stopped the UCLA Bruins' record 88-game winning streak.

The UCLA Basketball team has a tough four-game stretch to end the non-conference season. That begins today with Notre Dame coming to town.

UCLA has a chance to make up some ground after two bad losses in Las Vegas and a win over Notre Dame could prove to many that they are worthy of a Top 25 ranking, but they need to do it convincingly.

One Foot Down: Notre Dame Men's Basketball: UCLA Bruins Preview

    NCAAB

The excitement and discussion and focus may all be on the ND football team right now with their impending Cotton Bowl match-up with Clemson just 3 weeks away, but tonight the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball team will renew an old rivalry once again with the UCLA Bruins, squaring off in prime time on the west coast in Pauley Pavilion.

The Irish (6-2) enter the game hot off of a close loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Jimmy V Classic -- ND played decently well (Juwan Durham especially showed A TON with Oklahoma's best big man out of commission, scoring 15 points in just 15 minutes of action), but the team couldn't buy a free throw down the stretch while the Sooners shot very well from outside all game long.

Fansided: NDMBB: Historic Notre Dame vs. UCLA Rivalry Revived Saturday

January 19, 1974 - that was the date that UCLA's 88-game win streak ended at the hands of Notre Dame.

This time, nothing of that caliber is on the line. This merely is a non-conference game set in early December between two teams carrying 6-2 records. Yet, the significance of this game cannot go unnoticed.

Each game seems to be a building block, not only for the youth of Notre Dame but a UCLA team that is even greener than Mike Brey's squad.

Experience is a luxury that neither of these teams boast.

Bruins Nation: UCLA Men's Basketball: Steve Alford Discusses Notre Dame Rivalry

    NCAAB

When UCLA Bruins men's basketball coach Steve Alford addressed the media this week, he was immediately asked about two players that are out due to medical issues. Shareef O'Neal is scheduled to have surgery surgery next week. While Alford didn't seem too worried about the procedure, he told reporters they'd have to refer to the medical professionals for definitive answers to their questions. Additionally, Alex Olesinski is out of the boot on his foot and is slated to return to action in late December or early January.

Ben Bolch of the LA Times asked Alford about the team's three-point shooting.
