  • While I like Michigan to outright win this one, I think it stays close. The Wolverines play a half court offense a lot where they move the ball quite a bit which should allow Florida to stay in it being that they win with their tough-nose D and aren't the best of shooting teams coming from the South. Florida is 6-0 in their last 6 on neutral courts while Michigan is 1-4-1 in their last 6 ATS against SEC teams.

    My Pick: Florida +6

  • I like Michigan to win this game but I don't think they win by more then 6. I like this Michigan team but they can be beaten by teams that will get physical with them. Ask Michigan State or Wisconsin or even Penn State. The Gators are an outstanding defensive squad that will need to keep the score low, which is probable because Michigan throws about 20 passes around before shooting. Even in most of their losses, Florida played teams very closely.

    My Pick: Florida +6

Michigan has enough fire power to make this game a blowout. Florida beat Nevada because they forced Nevada to play at Floridas slow tempo. Its going to be much much harder for them to slow Michigan down to the comfortable tempo Florida likes. Just to be safe buy the hook, Ive lost too many times due to half a point.

I believe I'll take the favorite here with No. 2 Michigan over No. 10 Florida. The Gators survived No. 7 Nevada and Michigan, having some trouble, knocked out No. 15 Montana to get to this round.

The Gators beat Nevada with their #2 defense. They held Nevada to a mere 34% shooting and a lousy 20% from behind the arc while shooting 45.3 percent from the field.

The Wolverines did what a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament should do to a No. 15 seed team, they played their game and slowly pulled away to make it unreachable for Montana. They were ahead by as many as 27 at one point.

Florida is good ATS, I'll give them that. They are 5-0 ATS in their last five overall and 6-0 ATS in their last six neutral-site games. The Wolverines are winning ATS but not quite as good as Florida.

Michigan has the upper hand in this one and shouldn't have issues with the SU win. I like them to cover the 6.5 as well. And if you're looking for another bet to round out your ticket you might consider the overs in this one.

    My Pick: Michigan -6.5 80%

  • The Wolverines got their swagger back (if they ever really lost it) Thursday by treating an over-matched Montana team like an over-matched Montana team. The Wolverines thrashed the Grizzlies defensively and never allowed Montana to even sniff an upset in a 19-point opening-round victory. Floridas the highest-rated double-digit seed in the tournament, per KenPoms efficiency numbers. On Thursday night, Nevada found that out the hard way. The Gators only had four Quadrant 1 wins this year, but they played in 16 of those games. Theyre battle-tested. Florida wants to play slow and rely on its defense, as the Gators scratched out most of their quality wins this season via old fashioned rock fights.

Prediction - Florida, on paper, is a worse version of Michigan in that its defense out-paces its offense. Problem there for the Gators is that they entered the tournament No. 61 nationally in offensive efficiency and No. 15 in defense. Michigan was No. 18 and No. 2, respectively. Michigans the better team and this is a much better matchup for the Wolverines than Nevada might have been. The Gators are much more capable than their 20-15 record might show, but I'm not sure if Florida can score enough points against this stout Michigan defense. First to 60 gets this game. Score prediction: Michigan 65, Florida 58

  • Florida entered the tournament as a 10-seed with a 20-15 record, and beat Nevada in the 1st round, 70-61. Kevarrius Hayes led the way for the Gators with 16 points while also adding in 3 blocks on the defensive end. Keyontae Johnson was able to hit the double-double mark for Florida as he contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Michigan Wolverines entered the NCAA Tournament as a 2-seed with a 29-6 record, and they will be looking to continue their run after beating the Montana Grizzlies in the 1st round, 74-55.

Pick Analysis: From what I watched, Michigan dominated Montana from the opening tip. Charles Matthews is back for the Wolverines after missing the final stretch of the season, and he played lights out against Montana as he gave the Wolverines another scoring threat. Florida has continued to prove me wrong this season and they still scare me due to their offensive fire power. But my problem with Florida is the fact they lack consistency and Michigan has proven they can win games even when they don't have their best stuff this season. I just think Michigan is the more well rounded team and should win a grind it out style low scoring game. Michigan wins and covers 68-60, but barely.

    My Pick: Michigan -6.5 60%

  • Detroit Free Press: How Zavier Simpson lead Michigan basketball to Sweet 16 past Florida

    NCAAB

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Michigan Wolverines came out of their locker room and gathered in a tight circle, the players locked arm in arm at the entrance to the Wells Fargo Arena court.

    "Breathe!" Zavier Simpson barked.

They did as told. Simpson has that kind of power of this team. The players looked at each other, taking exaggerated deep breathes before playing Florida on Saturday afternoon. And you could feel the calm setting over them.

Then, they went around the circle, each player saying out loud what they would give to this team in this game.
