Houston Chronicle: Rockets continue to sputter in loss to Spurs
SAN ANTONIO - Eventually, the Rockets would have to make shots. Layups. Three-pointers. Something would have to fall more often than as a special occasion to make a run.
That they stayed on the Spurs heels as long as they did the way shot the ball seemed to stretch possibilities. But it was not built to last.
The Rockets shooting slump, so stunning on Thursday when they slogged their way to fewer points than any team had scored in a game this season, just got worse. The Rockets misfired from every corner of the floor, before finally going scoreless for nearly down the stretch as the Spurs pulled away, 96-89.
Pounding The Rock: San Antonio vs. Houston, Final Score: Spurs toughen up for 96-89 win over Rockets
Three nights after being called soft and undetermined by their head coach after two straight losses, the San Antonio Spurs looked much more determined and focused in a 96-89 win over the struggling Houston Rockets. It wasn't always pretty, but the Spurs found a way to get it done with some grit, solid defense, and a breakout night from Derrick White.
LaMarcus Aldridge led the way with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while white, DeMar DeRozan and Bryn Forbes all scored in double-figures. Eric Gordon returned from injury to post 23 points off the bench for the Rockets, while James Harden scored 25 points, 10 from the line, and only hit 1-13 from three.

Welcome to the game thread. The Rockets have been under-performing so far, and their last game was a 98-80 loss to the Russell Westbrook-less Oklahoma Thunder. It seems likely that James Harden and Chris Paul will lead the team to more than 80 points tonight, but anything can happen.
Consensus betting prediction from the Covers.com community:
San Antonio Spurs (59% consensus). The Houston Rockets are one of the season's biggest disappointments while the San Antonio Spurs were called "soft" by coach Gregg Popovich after their latest defeat. One of the teams is guaranteed to be feeling a bit better after the teams square off Saturday in San Antonio... http://bit.ly/2iH5Ber
Fansided: San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets: Game Preview and Where to Watch
Their quick trip to South Beach was disappointing, but the Spurs will have a chance to end a two-game skid when their struggling Texas rival comes to town.
San Antonio snuck up on the NBA with a strong showing to start the season. However, the squad seems to be back to square one after consecutive losses to a pair of mediocre Eastern Conference teams.
A 6-4 record keeps the Spurs away from dangerous territory for now, but the boys in Black and Silver will need to step it up if they hope to stay atop a tough Southwest Division.
Pounding The Rock: Game Preview: Spurs vs. Rockets
The Houston Rockets are coming into the November 10th game against the Spurs having won their last two of three while successfully luring last season's defensive assistant out of retirement and back into the 'run it back' fold.November 10th, 2018 | 7:30 CT Watch: NBATV/KENS | Listen: WOAI Spurs (6-4) vs. Rockets (4-6)
To the naked eye, the Rockets have indeed been playing better than their lackluster start, but without the buzzsaw-like efficiency of last season. As they work on figuring out their new line-up -- and this is just based on watching their games against the Bulls, the Pacers, and the Thunder -- they seem to be focused on feeding Clint Capella in the post with bounce passes -- who then either posts up or tries to cut to the basket, regardless of whether there is an opening -- with inconsistent results.
The Dream Shake: Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs game preview
The Rockets need their offense to wake up, and they need it to wake up yesterday.
Three years ago, Houston started off poorly on both ends of the court. And despite the repeated refrains of "It will normalize" and "Regression to the mean is coming," the Rockets never really recovered during J.B. Bickerstaff's season (give or take 11 games) in charge.
We're hearing a lot of that again now. Houston is missing more wide open threes than could be reasonably expected. They're missing layups at a rate that the numbers say shouldn't happen.
ESPN.com: Rockets, Spurs seek answers to scoring woes
There is a certain level of consternation in the air, for both teams, when the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets square off on Saturday evening at the AT&T Center in the first meeting this season between the two Lone Star State rivals.
Both the Spurs and Rockets come into the contest after a loss -- San Antonio has actually dropped two straight -- and concerns over their respective offensive deficiencies.
San Antonio returns home after a 95-88 loss in Wednesday at Miami in which the Spurs shot only 33.3 percent from the field despite going 13 of 32 from 3-point range.

Fansided: San Antonio Spurs: Three players that need to step up against Houston
It hasn't been an easy run for the Spurs. After dropping back-to-back games against the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat, San Antonio has dropped to the fifth seed in the Western Conference.
Even so, the margin of separation between the top five teams in the West is small and the season is young. There's plenty of time to put together a run but it'll take a concerted effort from the whole roster. With a balanced offense and smart defensive game plan, the sky's the limit for the new-look Spurs.
Each of the last two losses came by a margin of seven points in spite of major leads by both opponents earlier.
