If Lebron was playing these numbers wouldn't even be what they are. I believe they can keep this game close although I still believe they come up short.

My Pick: Los Angeles +8 50%

  • The Jazz are incredibly thin in the back court and they just lost Exum with an ankle injury. I was shocked they even offered a Mitchell points line last game and pounded the over. I'm going back to the well here because I'm not sure how he doesn't score over 24.5 here. His normal line is 22 give or take half a point so I don't think the added 2 points is enough for me to not go back to this. Mitchell has a 36% usage with Rubio off the court. I'll take him over 24.5 and think he shoots the ball at least 25 times tonight

Watch for BI and Ball to go back to being mediocre in this game. All those flashy games were just a fluke and I think Jazz defense will stifle the Lakers. I'm going with Jazz in this one.

You know the drill. Be respectful, except to Lakers fans. JK (mostly) be respectful to all. Root for a Jazz win. John Stockton is the point guard GOAT.

SLC Dunk: Lakers, sans LeBron, visit injury-depleted Utah Jazz

    When: 8:00 MT * Friday, January 11th, 2019

Where: Vivint Smart Home Arena * Salt Lake City, UT

    TV: ESPN

The Lakers are without LeBron, who is still one of the best players on the planet. Utah has suffered a myriad of injuries and is missing over one-third of their roster. Expect a lot of point guard minutes for Donovan Mitchell, possible Joe Ingles at point guard minutes, and Naz Mitrou-Long may even get some playing time tonight.

Lakers Nation: Lakers Vs. Jazz Preview & TV Info: Battle Of Two Top Defensive Teams, While LeBron James Misses 9th Straight Game

The Los Angeles Lakers are in Salt Lake City to take on Donavan Mitchell and one of the NBA's best defenses as they play the Utah Jazz.

The game should be a defensive battle, as both teams are in the top five in defensive rating over their last 10 games. However, the Lakers are in the bottom five in offensive rating in that same span.

This marks LeBron James' ninth straight missed game, which is the longest absence in his entire career. The Lakers are 3-5 without him thus far, having notched back-to-back wins.

Without James, they must see continued good play from Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma.

Deseret News: With all 3 point guards out here's what the Utah Jazz will do against the Lakers

    Deseret News

Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell and Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder strategize during the game against the Orlando Magic at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019.

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz are putting their "next man up" mentality to the test.

For at least the next little while, the Jazz will be without their top three point guards because of injuries. Already without starter Ricky Rubio and primary backup Dante Exum -- both of whom were injured at Milwaukee on Monday -- Utah announced that No.

Silver Screen and Roll: Lakers vs. Jazz Preview: Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram look to maintain momentum in Utah

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off of six of the best quarters they've played this season, let alone throughout LeBron James' absence. Still, they have a tough task heading into Utah on Friday night to take on a Jazz team that has turned things around and is fighting to get into the already insane Western Conference playoff picture.

Kyle Kuzma will be playing in front of a crowd that rooted for him in college, coming off of arguably the best game of his career. Before Wednesday night's 41-point explosion against the Detroit Pistons, Kuzma's shooting had been somewhat disappointing, if that game marked a turnaround in his season and he can consistently shoot anywhere near as well as he did against his hometown team, the Lakers' offense can start to make a lot more sense.

Fansided: Even sans LeBron, Utah Jazz can't be caught napping against Lakers

The Utah Jazz just seem to have a thing for theatrics. Last season, they led their entire fanbase to believe that they were lottery-bound by going 19-28 through their first 37 contests of the season. From there, they defied the odds to finish the year 29-6 and earn the fifth seed in the West.

This season, they've been as up and down and hard to predict as ever. And Wednesday's contest against the Orlando Magic was the perfect example of the kind of drama they've put themselves - and their fans - through. Utah started out pitifully slow, falling behind by as many as 21 points in the first quarter and by 17 at the half.

Official Site of the Lakers: Lakers at Jazz: 3 Things to Know (1/11/19)

Here is what you need to know before the Lakers hit the floor against the Utah Jazz.

    1) Kuzmania took over STAPLES on Wednesday
Kyle Kuzma is coming off the hottest night of his career, having exploded for a career-high 41 points against Detroit -- in only 29 minutes.

The sophomore was lethal across the floor, shooting 11-of-14 inside the arc and 5-of-10 on 3-pointers. He attacked in transition, fired off screens and broke out his trusty floater.

Kuzma dropped 22 points in the third quarter alone, as the Lakers' second-leading scorer stepped up in a big way with LeBron James missing his eighth straight game due to a groin strain.

Deseret News: LeBron not likely, but ex-Ute Kuzma will lead Lakers against Jazz Friday night

SALT LAKE CITY -- A lot of Utah Jazz fans circled January 11 on their calendars as the day LeBron James would come to Vivint Arena for the first time in a Los Angeles Lakers' uniform.

The day has come but James will likely not be playing due to a groin injury suffered in a Christmas Day game against Golden State that has kept him out of action for the past eight games, five of which the Lakers lost.
