Marquez has been pitching great since the start of the 2nd half and has a 28% strike out rate and just a 3.1% walk rate. He's always had way better splits on the road (shock right) and he dominates right handed hitting which he should see plenty of tonight. ST louis will be able to throw four lefties at them but they aren't that impressive and this is a pitchers park. I actaully like the rockies lineup a little more than the Cards even though they are on the road and I'll take a stab at the value but I like the under

This time of year at -145 is actually pretty damn good value. I don't see what the oddsmakers see in Marquez and the Rockies to make it even this close. Marquez has pitched the Cards well this year but they Rockies have nothing to play for here in the dog days of Summer. Meanwhile STL is vying for one of those prized play-in WC games and are winners of 3 of their last 4 on the current home stand. STL @ -145. I love it.

My Pick: St. Louis -145 70%

Rockies are another underdog that I like here. German Marquez is 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his last three starts against the Cardinals. and the Rockies are never out of a game with their line up. On the other hand Miles Mikolas gave up seven hits and five earned runs in five innings, leading to a 6-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. He is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in his last two starts against the Rockies. I think there is value in the Rockies here

    My Pick: Colorado +135

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Fowler's late two-run blast helps Cards rally by Rockies 6-5

Just back with the team after being promoted from AAA Memphis, reliever Dominic Leone (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the win.

The visiting Rockies appeared in good position to add to their lead in the second when leadoff hitter Charlie Blackmon reached on a two-base error to open the inning. On the play, Kolten Wong made a stellar play to grab Blackmon's one-hopper but his quick throw to first eluded first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and deflected down the first-base line off Blackmon, who advanced to second base on the play.

Purple Row: Cardinals 6, Rockies 5: Bullpen can't hold the lead--again

The Rockies were unable to hold a lead and unable to come back after giving up that lead, losing 6-5 to the Cardinals on Thursday after the start was delayed 52 minutes by rain. Up 5-2 in the sixth, Rockies pitchers gave up two-run home runs in back to back innings to give the Cardinals the lead. That, and the Rockies couldn't manage a hit after the sixth inning, so any comeback was DOA. The Rockies are now 58-70.

The Cardinals scored in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. Each time these runs came via a two-run home run, first from Marcel Ozuna, then Paul DeJong, and finally old friend Dexter Fowler.
