well unfortunatly I don't have the balls to fire this off, but the marlins have a good shot in this one. I actaully really like Caleb Smith and this marlins team brings up some great pitching. I love Gallen who got traded to the Dbacks and I liked Richards who got traded as well. Smith is still a marlin and he's a better pticher than Teheran. His numbers are better but we all know that's not why the line is the way it is. It's because of these bats and if one pitcher is better than the other, it's hard to bank on bats and pitching always trumps hitting so you are getting decent value on the better pitcher

CBS Miami: Braves Blank Marlins 5-0

Atlanta (CBSMiami/AP) --- The Atlanta Braves beat Miami 5-0 on Wednesday night to continue their mastery of the Marlins.

Braves' Adeiny Hechavarria and Ronald Acuna Jr. each hit a two-run homer, Julio Teheran struck out a season-high nine.

The Braves are 14-4 against Miami this year after winning the 2018 season series between the NL East rivals 14-5.

Teheran (8-8) combined with Sean Newcomb and Josh Tomlin for a seven-hit shutout. The right-hander allowed five hits in seven innings.

Teheran improved to 3-0 against Miami this season and rebounded nicely from the shortest start of his career.

Braves Journal: Flow and Hech, the new Starsky and Hutch: Braves 5, Marlins 0

There was an announcement this week: scientists have apparently discovered a new state of matter: topological superconductivity. I don't have a great Braves tie-in to this discovery, but some have come to expect non-Braves-related intros from me. So if you're into stable qubits, I'm sure you're pretty excited right now and you can pretty much stop reading.

Last week, JamesD asked me how many times teams hit six or more home runs in a 9 inning game without winning, as the Braves managed against the Mets, losing 10-8. The answer is 23 times, including 3 teams that hit 7 home runs and lost, which is the record.

Talking Chop: Outfield will have a different look for Braves as they take on Marlins

The lineups for the middle game of the three-game series between the Braves and Marlins are officially out there for the public to view, so let's view them then.

Here's what the Braves are looking like tonight:

As usual during this current run-in with the injury bug, most of the changes you're going to be are going to come between spots 5-through-9. Tonight, the two outfielders flanking Ronald Acuna Jr. will be Adam Duvall in left field and Charlie Culbersonin right field. Fortunately, Adeiny Hechavarria appears to be alright and he'll be batting eighth.

CBS Miami: Freeman's 2 Homers, 4 RBIs Carry Braves Past Marlins 5-1

ATLANTA (AP) -- Freddie Freeman took an unintended break this past weekend. He was back at work Tuesday night.

The Atlanta slugger homered twice and drove in four runs, leading the Braves past the Miami Marlins 5-1 in another testy game between the NL East rivals.

After going 0-for-12 with five strikeouts during a three-game series against the Dodgers, this was more line with what the Braves expect from Freeman.

"You knew somebody was going to pay," Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. "It was inevitable. You're not going to keep that guy down."

Freeman sent one went the opposite way into the Marlins bullpen against Elieser Hernandez in the fourth.

Talking Chop: Game Thread 8/21/19: Braves vs. Marlins

Welcome to the game thread, and the story is the same as last night. The Braves need to take care of business in situations like this against the Marlins, and they've gotten off to a pretty good start with a comfortable victory last night. Let's hope that the Braves keep it going and also get out of tonight's game with no more injuries.
