I stay with the streaking Rays today. The Padres just haven't shown me that they have extra in the tank to push for a spot in the playoffs. It seems like all the other teams that are "fighting" for the post season and even some, that people thought were out, are hitting another gear.

Love the Padres here. Jalen Beeks has been good for the Rays but the rest of the staff has been shaky at best. San Diego is still technically not out of the Wild Card race but need every game they can get. Quantrill has been terrific of late and that has helped stabilize the Padres rotation. This will be a challenge for Tampa Bay as Quantrill pitches well at Petco Park. This is a great spot for the Padres to break the Rays win streak

    My Pick: San Diego -113

  • TBO Rays: Rays streaks come to an end with 7-2 loss to Padres

    MLB

SAN DIEGO -- Jalen Beeks did pitcher better Wednesday, as manager Kevin Cash predicted, getting through five innings for the first time in more than three months.

But he still didn't pitch well enough, as the Rays lost the game to the Padres 7-2, and with it their chance for the best two-city road trip in franchise history.

Instead they finished 5-1 on their country-crossing journey to Seattle and San Diego, their overall winning streak ending at five and their team-record road run at nine games.

They headed home 71-51 and in control of the second AL wild card, with a weekend series against the Tigers starting Friday.

  • TBO Rays: Rays at Padres lineups for Wednesday series, roadtrip finale

    MLB

The Rays are looking to run their latest winning streak to six and make it a clean sweep of their two-city west coast road trip to Seattle and San Diego in today's matinee finale at Petco Park. They also are looking to extend their team-record road winning streak to 10.

Lefty Jalen Beeks, who has struggled of late, will be on the mound for the Rays; righty Cal Quantrill is starting for San Diego. Rays manager Kevin Cash said he expected a strong outing from Beeks, starting with cutting down on the amount of pitches thrown per inning.

  • TBO Rays: Rays come back for fifth straight win, beat Padres 7-5

    MLB

SAN DIEGO - The Rays overcame a shaky start by Brendan McKay on Tuesday to roll to their fifth straight win, beating the Padres 7-5.

McKay allowed four runs in a messy first, but the Rays came all the way back. Ji-Man Choi, who had a two-run homer and a pair of doubles, and Willy Adames led the way with three hits each.

The win made the Rays five-for-five on the road trip that concludes with a Wednesday matinee, and was their 14th in their last 17 games. They improved to 71-50 and extended their lead over the A's in the second wild-card race to three games.

SignOnSanDiego.com: Tatis exits with injury as Padres lose lead vs. Rays

The Padres' embattled bullpen lost Eric Lauer's lead. But that was the least of the team's concerns after Fernando Tatis Jr. exited in the seventh inning with an apparent injury in a game the Padres trailed the Rays, 7-4, in the seventh inning Tuesday night at Petco Park.

The 20-year-old phenom was visited by team trainer Michael Salazar and Padres manager Andy Green after a sixth-inning swing. He appeared to be stretching out his hip area but remained in the game and struck out for the second time. A half-inning later, Luis Urias slid over to shortstop and Greg Garcia entered to play second base.
