  • Love anyone playing the Tigers at +145 odds. This game it is the Mariners, who swept the Tigers in a 4 game series last month. We also see that Yusei Kikuchi is bouncing as of late while Boyd has really struggled. The Tigers are 0-5 in Boyds last five starts vs. AL West teams and 0-6 in their last six games following an off day. Mariners are the play here at these odds

    My Pick: Seattle +145 70%

The Seattle Times: Seager's three-homer, six-RBI night carries Mariners past Tigers

    MLB

DETROIT - Many years from now, when Kyle Seager tells his young son, Crue, about the time he hit three home runs in one game at Comerica Park, the description and distance of that magical third willprobably have grown with time. The fact that it wasn't going over the fence and probably should have been caught by Niko Goodrum won't be mentioned. Of course, there is the little matter of the internet and video and the immediacy of Google searches.

Nevertheless, Seager's three-homer night - the first of his career - helped the Mariners shrug off another suboptimal start from Yusei Kikuchi and roll to an 11-6 win over the Tigers, handing another loss to the worst team in baseball.

U.S.S. Mariner: Game 120, Mariners at Tigers - Historical Ineptitude

I talked a bit about how bad the Detroit Tigers are at playing baseball back when they came to Seattle, but I must emphasize: the Detroit Tigers are truly, memorably awful. There was a lot of chatter early in the year about Baltimore, and if they'd make a run at history with Chris Davis' mummified remains at 1B and without a half-season of Manny Machado, and indeed, they're pretty bad, but that's got more to do with their pitching staff than their position players. Because of the way replacement level is calculated, and given that every team has a farm system and access to the waiver wire, it's really, really hard to trot out an entire position player group that's at or below replacement level for a year.

Lookout Landing: Motown Meetup: Mariners (48-71) at Tigers (35-80) Series Preview

    MLB

Well, folks, the Tigers have rolled into town. A couple weeks ago, the Mariners walloped them over a 4-game set, doing nothing for their draft position but something for my deep-seated feelings of sadness over baseball. The Tigers have 8 wins since July 1st. Eight.

    At a Glance
    Game 1 Tuesday, August 13 | 4:10 pm
LHP Yusei Kikuchi LHP Matt Boyd
    Game 2 Wednesday, August 14 | 4:10 pm
LHP Marco Gonzales RHP Edwin Jackson
    Game 3 Thursday, August 15 | 10:10 am
LHP Tommy Milone RHP Spencer Turnbull

The numbers here are actually kind of interesting: Despite being holy cow so much worse than the Mariners in the win/loss arena, the underlying numbers are actually similar.

Fansided: Detroit Tigers host the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series

The Detroit Tigers begin a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners tomorrow night at Comerica Park. This series is coming after the Tigers split a four-game series with the Kansas City Royals 2-2. Detroit will look to continue experimenting with their roster to find players for the future while they rebuild.

Detroit just played against the Mariners in Seattle at the end of July and lost all four games of the series. The Tigers have made several Roster changes since then and picked up a few more wins, so they are looking to flip the script at home.
