SignOnSanDiego.com: Cubs again hold off Padres in heat

    CHICAGO --

Again on Saturday, the Padres and Cubs melted.

Again, it was only worth it for the Cubs, who won 6-5 for a second straight day at Wrigley Field, where for the second straight day the index was pushed toward 110.

Manny Machado hit his 200th career home run, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his longest home run and Hunter Renfroe hit his team team-leading 28th home run. All those bombs did was make it a game.

The Padres, who lost for the seventh time in eight games since the All-Star break, couldn't get a hit in the final three innings.
