McCovey Chronicles: Giants rally in the sixteenth inning to beat the Mets, 3-2

    MLB

If every win went down like this, we'd probably like baseball a lot less. But every once and a while? When it extends a winning streak? Sure. Let's do it. Turn that baseball knob to 11. Let's blow it out.

It's 11:37pm and the broadcast has just switched off. The last shot was of Donovan Solano running off the field to join the rest of the Giants in celebration after his walk-off hit. Somehow, they came back from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the 16th inning to win 3-2.

There are a couple of reasons why this game lasted so long: both teams made few mistakes and the Giants were pretty tired.

CBS: Bumgarner Shines As Giants Rally Past Mets In 16

    MLB

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- You bet Madison Bumgarner pleaded to Bruce Bochy to start the 10th inning. And of course the big left-hander remained a little irked afterward considering he didn't get the chance.

"I didn't try to make it much of a conversation but he wasn't having it. Usually if I really want to I can get my way with him, but he wasn't having it today," Bumgarner said, then chuckled adding, "How many times do you get to go out for the 10th?"

If this happened to be Bumgarner's final start for San Francisco, he left another lasting memory -- even if everybody wound up groggy by the time this game finally ended in 4 hours, 47 minutes.

San Jose Mercury News: Solano's walk-off single gives Giants a marathon win over Mets

    MLB

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants played the second-longest game of their season on Thursday night.

At least it had a satisfying ending.

The Giants scored twice in the bottom of the 16th inning -- including a walk-off single from Donovan Solano -- to pull out a 3-2 victory over the New York Mets, extending their winning streak to six games and moving to one game under .500 for the first time since April 1.

Williams Jerez allowed solo home run allowed by reliever to Mets slugger Pete Alonso in the top of the 16th inning. But Alex Dickerson led off the bottom half with a double to right of reliever Chris Mazza.
